This simple prayer is for the moments when you feel rejected, whether by a person, a group, a family, a workplace, or a friend who has gone quiet. You can pray it when the hurt is fresh, late at night, or whenever the old question “What is wrong with me?” starts to repeat itself. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces between its lines.

Simple Prayer When You Feel Rejected

Lord, I feel rejected right now, and it hurts more than I can easily say. Someone chose not to include me, or turned away, or said something that made me feel small and unwanted. I keep replaying it in my mind and wondering whether I was too much, not enough, or simply forgettable. Please meet me in that place. You see what I cannot see clearly, and you know my heart better than the people who hurt me.

Remind me that my worth does not rise and fall with another person’s approval. Quiet the voice that says I must earn love, and replace it with the truth that I am known and held by you. Show me what is mine to carry and what I can set down, and give me courage to ask for honesty where I need it instead of guessing at what others think. Heal what is tender, and help me rest in your steady acceptance. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I feel rejected and I am hurting. Hold me close and remind me that I am seen and loved by you. Lift the weight of what someone else has said or done, and give me peace that does not depend on how others respond to me. Help me take the next breath and the next step with you beside me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Pray this when the rejection leaves you feeling crushed. Ask the Lord to draw near to your heartache, trusting that he is not distant from the person who feels pushed aside.

Psalm 27:10

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

(WEB)

Use this verse when even family or those closest to you have turned away. Thank God that he gathers you in when others have let you go.

Isaiah 49:15-16

15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you! 16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. your walls are continually before me.

(WEB)

Pray this when you wonder whether anyone remembers you. Ask God to make the unshakable reality of his memory of you real in your heart.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when fear of being abandoned is loud. Pray that nothing, including another person’s rejection, can separate you from the love of Christ.

1 Peter 2:4

Coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel discarded. Ask God to help you see yourself as chosen and precious in his eyes, even when others have overlooked you.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time and place, such as the car before you walk into work, a chair by the window, or your bed before sleep. Hold something steady in your hands, like a mug, a smooth stone, or a Bible, so your body has something to rest on while your heart speaks. Pray slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words settle before moving on.

If the hurt is heavy, ask a trusted friend, pastor, or family member to pray it with you or for you. Sometimes a second voice reminds us of what we forget when we are alone with our pain. Return to this prayer whenever the rejection stirs up old wounds, and let it be a place you come back to again and again.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees you in every hidden place fill you with a peace that rejection cannot take away. May you feel the steadiness of his presence and know that you belong to him. May kindness find you where you have been overlooked, and may you rest tonight in the quiet certainty that you are loved.
