When you need comfort, these Bible passages give you words of God’s nearness, faithfulness and care for the moments when your strength runs thin. They are gathered for anyone facing grief, fear, exhaustion or the quiet ache of a day that will not lift. Each one points you away from your own resources toward a God who sees you and holds you steady.

Verses for Grief and Loss

Loss can leave you unsure how to pray or what to feel. The passages in this group speak to God’s closeness to the brokenhearted and his promise to keep working even when you cannot see how.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

This verse tells you that God draws near when your heart is cracked open by loss. Try writing it on a card and placing it where you will see it at the kitchen sink, the place where grief often surfaces without warning.

Revelation 21:4

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”

(WEB)

John describes a future where every tear is wiped away, which gives you a horizon beyond the present ache. Let it shape your prayers, asking God to hold the person you miss and to show you that sorrow is not the last word.

Matthew 5:4

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

(WEB)

Jesus blesses those who mourn and promises them comfort, which means your grief is not a sign of weakness or failure. Give yourself permission to mourn today, and name one specific thing you are grieving so that God hears the particulars.

Verses for Fear and Anxiety

When worry keeps you awake or follows you through the day, these passages call you to place your concerns in God’s hands. Each one offers a steady reason to breathe more slowly.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul connects prayer with peace, which means worry does not have to be carried alone. When a fear rises, turn it into a short sentence of prayer, naming the concern and thanking God for hearing it.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God speaks directly here, promising his presence, strength and help to those who feel afraid. Repeat the first line slowly during a stressful moment, letting each phrase settle before you move to the next task.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

David admits fear openly and then chooses trust, a pattern you can copy. Before you go into a tense conversation or appointment, say aloud that you will trust God in that moment.

Verses for Weariness and Exhaustion

Some seasons drain you physically and emotionally, leaving little energy for faith. These verses speak to God’s sustaining strength when you have nothing left to give.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to him, which is an invitation to rest rather than a demand for performance. Pause for a few minutes today and bring him the heaviest item on your list without trying to solve it first.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes God giving strength to the faint and renewal to those who wait on him. Notice that the promise is about waiting, not rushing, so let your prayers be slower and more patient than your to-do list.

Psalm 62:1

My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.

(WEB)

The psalmist finds rest in God alone, which invites you to stop searching for comfort in scattered places. Sit quietly for one minute at the start of the day and repeat the verse, letting your body soften as you do.

Verses for Lonely Nights

Comfort often feels hardest in the dark hours when no one else is awake. These passages remind you that God keeps watch and stays near when the house is quiet.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

(WEB)

David speaks of walking through the darkest valley and not fearing harm, because the Lord is with him. Keep this verse close to your bed, and whisper it when the night feels longest.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses tells Israel that God will not leave or forsake them, a promise that still reaches into lonely rooms. Consider writing the verse on a note in your Bible or journal so that you can return to it whenever isolation returns.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists the things that cannot separate us from God’s love, from death to present troubles. When you feel cut off, read the list slowly and ask God to help you believe that nothing has broken the bond.

How to Use These Verses

Write the verses you return to most often on index cards or in a notes app on your phone, so they are ready when comfort is needed and you cannot search for them. Keep one card in your bag or wallet and another near the place where you usually feel most overwhelmed, whether that is the car, the desk or the bedside table.

Read the passages aloud rather than silently, especially during anxious or lonely moments, because hearing your own voice speak God’s words can slow the racing mind. Pair each verse with a simple prayer, asking God to make the truth of the passage real in your body and not only in your thoughts.

A Short Prayer for when you need comfort

Lord, you see me in this hard season, and you know the weight I am carrying. Hold me close when grief, fear or weariness feels too heavy, and remind me that you are near even when I cannot feel you. Let these words settle into my heart so that I can rest in your faithfulness today. Help me take the next small step and trust you with what I cannot control. Thank you for never leaving me alone. Amen.
