This short prayer is for the moment when you feel tired in body, mind or spirit and do not have the energy to say much more than “Lord, help.” It can be prayed first thing in the morning, in the middle of a long afternoon, or late at night when the day has finally quieted. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Short Prayer When You Feel Tired

Lord, I come to you tired. My body feels heavy, my thoughts are running in circles, and I am not sure I have enough left for the people and tasks waiting for me. Some of this weariness comes from work that never seems finished, and some from worries about money, health, or family that I cannot seem to set down. You see every part of it, and nothing about my exhaustion surprises you.

So I ask you to carry what I cannot. Give me rest that reaches past sleep, the kind that settles my heart and steadies my breathing. Help me stop trying to do everything on my own strength, and show me the one thing that truly needs doing today. Where I have been pushing too hard, gently slow me down, and where I have been silently falling apart, meet me with your patience.

Renew me a little, Lord, enough to take the next step and then the one after that. I trust that you do not grow weary, and I rest in that truth for now. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired, and I cannot fix that right now. Carry what is heavy, quiet what is anxious in me, and give me strength for the next hour and no more than that. Help me rest in you even while I keep moving. I trust you with the rest of this day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to him. When you feel tired, you can pray this verse as a direct answer to your own coming, bringing the exhaustion to him as he asked.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

This verse speaks of God giving strength to the faint and power to those who have none. Pray it when your own reserves feel empty, asking him to supply what you lack.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

Sometimes tiredness is made worse by constant noise in our heads. Let this verse slow your pace, and pray for the stillness to know that God is God even when you cannot manage everything.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

The psalmist lifts his eyes to the hills and remembers where his help comes from. When you are worn out, pray these lines to remind yourself that your help does not depend on your own stamina.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good. Pray this when you are discouraged by how slowly things move, asking God to keep you faithful and to give the harvest its time.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer at a natural pause in your day, such as sitting in the car before going inside, standing at the kitchen sink, or lying in bed before you turn off the light. Keeping one hand on a warm mug, a steering wheel, or your own chest can help your body settle while your mind turns toward God. If you are a parent, caregiver or shift worker, you might pray the shorter version silently whenever you have a spare breath.

If you are too tired to pray alone, ask a friend, spouse or pastor to pray the words over you, or read them together by phone or in person. Sharing the weight often makes it lighter, and hearing someone else speak to God on your behalf can be a quiet relief when your own words have run out.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who never grows weary give rest to the one who is tired tonight. May he steady their steps, calm their thoughts, and remind them that they are held. May strength arrive in the small amounts they need, and may peace settle over them like a warm blanket.
