This prayer is for the times when your faith feels thin, when prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling and God feels distant or silent. You can pray it when you wake up unsure whether you still believe, after a loss or disappointment that shook your trust, or in the quiet hours when doubt seems louder than hope. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayer When Your Faith Feels Weak

Lord, I am tired, and I don’t feel as sure of you as I want to be. Some days I pray and nothing seems to change, and I wonder whether anyone is listening. I miss the closeness I used to feel, and I’m afraid of how far I’ve drifted. I bring you my doubts instead of hiding them, because I know you can handle honest questions.

Be near to me even when I can’t feel you. Help me remember the times you have been faithful, even when my memory is patchy and my heart is cold. Hold on to me when my grip on you is weak, and let my small, shaky trust be enough to keep me coming back to you. Quiet the noise of worry, and give me the willingness to keep showing up.

Strengthen what is fragile in me, and be patient with my unbelief. I give you the parts of my faith that feel broken, and I ask you to mend them in your time. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my faith feels weak right now, and I don’t know what to say. I am not asking you to fix everything at once. Please hold me steady, help me take one honest step toward you, and remind me that you have not let go of me. Be near in this moment, even if I can’t feel it. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Mark 9:24

Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

(WEB)

This is the honest cry of a father who believed and doubted at once. Pray it when you want to believe but need help with the unbelief still in you, asking God to meet you right where you are.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

When your faith feels bruised, pray this verse to remember that God draws near to people who are hurting. Ask him to be close to your broken places rather than waiting for you to feel strong first.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Use this passage when you fear that doubt has put distance between you and God. Pray that nothing in your struggle, including your weak faith, can separate you from his love.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

This verse speaks to weariness and fading strength. Pray it as a request for God to give power to tired hearts, especially when you have nothing left to give.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel stalled in your walk with God. Thank him that the work he started in you is not finished, and ask him to keep working even when you can’t see progress.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying it first thing in the morning, before the day’s demands crowd in, or late at night when doubts tend to surface. Sit somewhere quiet and keep a Bible or a notebook nearby. Writing down the verses you pray can give your hands something to do while your heart catches up.

You might also ask a trusted friend, small group leader or pastor to pray it with you or for you. Sometimes a faith that feels weak alone can be carried by others until it grows stronger again.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who holds the whole world hold you today, even on the days when your grip feels loose. May he meet your questions with patience, strengthen what feels frail, and remind you that you are known and not forgotten. May his peace settle over your weary heart.
