This list gives you Bible passages to carry into the coming year, whether you are facing new seasons, unfamiliar responsibilities, or simply the uncertainty of not yet knowing what lies ahead. Each passage is paired with a short reflection and a practical way to hold it through the days ahead. The verses share one common thread: God is present in every season, and the future is held in his faithful hands rather than yours alone.

Verses for Trusting God with Plans You Cannot See

Most of us begin a new year with a mental list of goals, hopes and worries. These passages remind you that planning is good, but the outcome belongs to God. Read them when your calendar feels crowded or when you are tempted to think everything depends on you.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Solomon invites you to lean on God rather than on your own understanding, which is a steadying thought when the year feels full of unknowns. Practically, try writing down one decision you are anxious about and beside it the words “I will trust the Lord with this.” Revisit that note when the decision comes due.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

(WEB)

Jeremiah wrote this to exiles who could not see their way home, and it speaks to anyone waiting on a future that feels distant. Remember that God’s plans are described as good and full of hope even when the present is hard. Take a moment each morning to name one hope you are holding onto.

Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God announces something new in this verse, pointing you away from dwelling on what has ended. It is an encouraging word for a fresh start or a season of change. Consider one small new habit you could begin this month and ask God to make a way for it.

Verses for Courage When the New Year Feels Daunting

A new year can bring nerves about new jobs, new challenges, or simply the weight of carrying on. These passages speak to fear and remind you that God’s strength is available exactly when you need it. Keep them close for moments when your confidence wavers.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God gave Joshua this command as he prepared to lead Israel into an unknown land, and it applies to any threshold you are approaching. The reason to be strong is not your own ability but the presence of the Lord wherever you go. Before a demanding day, speak the verse aloud as you leave the house.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

This verse pairs God’s reassurance with his active help, so it is more than a comfort for the fearful heart. It says God will strengthen and uphold you, which suggests a steady support rather than a one-time rescue. When anxiety rises, name the fear and then name the help God has promised.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

(WEB)

David speaks of the Lord as light and salvation, and asks whom he should fear. This passage invites you to measure the year’s challenges against a far larger reality. Try reading it slowly before opening an email or walking into a hard conversation.

Verses for Endurance Through Long and Ordinary Seasons

Not every year is marked by dramatic change. Often the real work is faithfulness in routine days, steady effort, and patience with slow progress. These passages honor perseverance and remind you that small faithfulness matters to God.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, because a harvest will come in its proper time. It speaks to projects and relationships that seem to produce little visible fruit. Choose one good thing you are tempted to abandon and commit to continuing it for another month.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

In the middle of a book of grief, the writer remembers that God’s mercies are new every morning. This is a helpful reminder for a year that may bring repeated challenges. Begin tomorrow by asking God for that day’s mercy rather than trying to carry the whole year at once.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love him, without promising that every event will feel good. The verse invites you to look for God’s purposes over the long arc of your life. Keep a short journal of moments where you later saw his hand at work.

Verses for Renewal and Quiet Strength

Looking ahead also means tending your inner life. These passages call you to rest, renewal and dependence on God as the source of your strength for whatever the year brings.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes those who wait on the Lord as renewed in strength, able to rise like eagles and keep going. Waiting here is active trust rather than passive delay. Build a few minutes of unhurried prayer into your week as a deliberate act of waiting.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary to come to him and find rest, and he describes his yoke as easy compared with the burdens we carry alone. This passage is especially useful for those already tired before the year has properly begun. Consider which burden you could hand to Jesus this week, even if only for an hour.

Psalm 90:12

So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(WEB)

Moses asks God to teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. This is a sober but hopeful prayer for planning a year well. Try choosing one priority that matters most in the coming months and let it guide your calendar.

How to Use These Verses

Write three or four of these passages on index cards or in the notes app on your phone, and place them where you will see them daily, such as near your coffee maker, on your bathroom mirror, or as your lock screen. Choose one verse each week to focus on rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once. Repetition over weeks does more than a single reading.

Pray the verses back to God in your own words. If Isaiah 41:10 speaks to a fear you have, turn it into a request: help me believe you are with me in this meeting. Revisit the list at the start of each month and note which passages have become meaningful, since the verses that speak loudest often change as the year unfolds.

A Short Prayer for the Year Ahead

Lord, I bring you the year that is coming, with its plans I can see and its many things I cannot. Thank you that you already know every day of it and that you are faithful in each one. Where I feel afraid, give me courage rooted in your presence. Where I am tired, give me rest and renewed strength. Help me to trust you with what I cannot control and to be faithful in what you have placed before me. Amen.
