When you feel tired, the verses below give you words of rest, strength and steady hope to hold onto. They are gathered for the person who is worn down by work, caregiving, grief or simply the long weight of ordinary days. Each one points to a God who does not grow weary and who invites you to bring your exhaustion to him.

These verses share a common thread: they speak of renewed strength, real rest and a Lord who carries what we cannot. Some promise energy for the next step, others remind you that rest is a gift rather than a failure. Read them slowly, and let them meet you where you actually are.

Verses for the Early Morning When Your Energy Is Gone

Some mornings the alarm feels like an accusation before the day has even begun. These verses speak to the moment when you wake up already depleted and wonder how you will get through.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes strength that comes from waiting on the Lord, not from squeezing more out of yourself. Before you reach for your phone, pause and name one specific task you dread today, then ask God to give you the strength for just that task.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

The psalmist admits that his body and heart both fail, yet he finds God to be his strength. When you feel drained, try saying the first part of this verse aloud while you make your coffee, letting it name the reality before you move on.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Even in a book of sorrow, these verses insist that God’s mercies are new every morning. On a tired morning, write “new mercy today” on a sticky note and place it where you will see it at the start of the day.

Verses for the Afternoon When the Work Keeps Piling Up

Midday fatigue has its own flavor: the inbox keeps refilling, the to-do list keeps growing, and your patience thins. These verses address the pressure of a long stretch of work with no clear end in sight.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to him, and he promises rest rather than a lecture. When you feel the afternoon slump, take sixty seconds to close your eyes, breathe slowly and tell Jesus one thing that is wearing you down.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul learned that God’s grace is enough even when he felt weak and stretched. When you are running on empty, admit to God that you cannot do everything, and ask him to supply grace for the one task still in front of you.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul writes about not growing weary in doing good, with a promise of a harvest in due season. Think of one small faithful action you can finish this afternoon, such as returning a call or encouraging a coworker, and let that be enough for today.

Verses for the Evening When Rest Feels Impossible to Find

At the end of the day the body wants to stop, but the mind keeps running. These verses are for the quiet hours when you are too tired to sleep well and too drained to pray with many words.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

David says he lies down and sleeps in peace because the Lord alone makes him dwell in safety. As you get into bed, you might whisper this verse as a way of handing the unfinished work of the day back to God.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This psalm reminds us that God gives sleep to his beloved, and that anxious striving does not earn what he freely gives. If you feel guilty for stopping, let this verse permit you to rest without apology.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

The shepherd makes his sheep lie down in green pastures and restores their souls. Try reading these three verses slowly before turning off the light, pausing after each line to notice what you need restored.

Mark 6:31

He said to them, “You come apart into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

(WEB)

Jesus tells his exhausted disciples to come away to a quiet place and rest for a while. This verse gives you permission to schedule rest as deliberately as you schedule meetings, even if it is only ten quiet minutes.

Verses for the Days When You Are Worn Down Emotionally

Tiredness is not always physical. Grief, worry and long seasons of care can leave you spent in ways no nap will fix. These verses speak to the weariness of the heart.

Psalm 62:1

My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.

(WEB)

David waits quietly for God alone, finding his salvation in him. When your heart feels too tired to pray, sit in silence for a minute and let this verse be your entire prayer.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

(WEB)

Jesus gives a peace that is not the kind the world offers. When anxiety has drained you, name the specific worry you carry and then release it by repeating this verse as you go about your work.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

(WEB)

Paul says the Spirit helps us in our weakness, even when we do not know how to pray. If you are too tired for words, take comfort that God hears the groaning of your heart and that you do not need polished language to be heard.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. If your tiredness is tied to loss or disappointment, let this verse remind you that God draws close precisely in those places.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Isaiah speaks of perfect peace for those whose minds are stayed on the Lord. When your thoughts race, choose one steady image of God and return to it whenever your mind starts to spiral.

How to Use These Verses

Write three or four of these verses on index cards or in the notes app on your phone, and keep them where you naturally pause, such as beside the bathroom mirror, on the dashboard or on your bedside table. Choose a verse for the specific part of the day when you usually feel most tired, so the words are ready when you need them rather than hunted for in a crisis.

When you pray these verses, read one aloud, then speak a sentence back to God in your own words, even if it is only “I am tired, help me.” Repeating the same verse for a week is often more helpful than rotating through many, because familiar words become a steady handhold on heavy days.

A Short Prayer for When You Feel Tired

Lord, I am tired, and I bring my weariness to you just as it is. You know the work I have not finished, the worries that keep me awake and the parts of me that feel spent. Renew my strength for the next step, and give me the grace to rest without guilt when rest is what I need. Remind me that you do not grow weary, and that you are gentle with those who are worn down. Hold me through this day and through the night ahead. Amen.
