If you want to give up, the passages below are a place to find steady ground when you have run out of your own strength. Each one points away from your effort and toward God’s faithfulness, his nearness, and his power to keep going when you cannot. These verses share a simple thread: they speak to people who are tired, discouraged, or ready to quit, and they remind you that you are not carrying the weight alone.

Verses for the Morning You Cannot Face the Day

Some mornings the thought of getting out of bed feels heavier than any task waiting for you. The verses in this section meet you at that exact point, reminding you that God’s mercy starts fresh each day and that he is already awake and attentive to you before you say a word.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When you feel worn down before the day has begun, this passage reminds you that God’s compassion has not run out. Try reading it aloud while you are still sitting on the edge of the bed, then name one small thing you need to do before lunch and offer it to him.

Psalm 30:5

For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

(WEB)

The psalmist does not promise that the night of sorrow disappears at once, only that joy comes with the morning. If the night has been long, let this verse be a quiet claim on the coming hours. Keep a sticky note with the words on your bathroom mirror so you see it before the day pulls you in.

Verses for When Your Strength Is Gone

Giving up often comes from the feeling that you have nothing left to offer. These passages speak to exhaustion in body, mind, and spirit, and they show that God’s power is made known precisely where our own reserves have failed.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes God giving power to the weary and strength to those who have none. When you are running on empty, this passage invites you to stop pretending you can sustain yourself. Pick one task you have been dreading and ask God for the energy to take just the first step.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul heard God say that his grace was enough, and that power is made perfect in weakness. If you feel you are failing, this verse reframes the moment. Write your weakness honestly in a journal, then add one sentence beneath it: “Your grace is enough for this.”

Verses for the Long Stretch Without Relief

Some seasons are not a single bad day but months of pressure that never seem to lift. The passages here address endurance, the slow work of continuing when change is not visible, and the hope that God is doing something you cannot yet see.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul writes that we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. This verse speaks directly to the temptation to quit when results seem absent. Choose one faithful habit you can keep this week, such as a daily walk or a short prayer, and mark each day you complete it.

Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us.

(WEB)

Paul sets present suffering alongside a future glory that outweighs it. When the hardship feels permanent, this verse gives you a wider frame. Tell one trusted friend what you are enduring this month and ask them to remind you of this promise when your own memory falters.

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

(WEB)

James speaks of the blessing that belongs to the one who perseveres under trial. This passage is an encouragement to hold on rather than let go. At the end of each day, name one way you persevered, however small, and thank God for it.

Verses for Moments of Hopelessness

When discouragement settles deep, it can tell you that things will never improve. These verses speak plainly into that lie, pointing to God’s nearness, his care for the broken, and his unchanging character.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. If you feel crushed, this verse tells you that your pain is not hidden from God. Sit quietly for two minutes, breathe slowly, and simply tell him what hurts most right now.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

God is described as a refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. When everything feels unsteady, this verse anchors you to someone who does not move. Repeat the words slowly during a difficult moment, letting each phrase settle before you go on.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses tells the people to be strong and courageous because the Lord goes with them and will not fail them. If you are tempted to walk away from something you have been called to, this promise reminds you that you do not face it alone. Name the one situation where you most need God to go ahead of you.

How to Use These Verses

Start small. Choose one passage that fits your current struggle and write it on a card you can carry in your pocket or bag. Read it when you first wake, again at midday, and once more before sleep. Repetition helps truth take root when your feelings are pulling the other way.

When you pray with these words, read the passage slowly, then speak back to God in your own language what it reveals about him. You might say, “You are near to me, so I will let you carry this.” Honest prayer, even when it sounds weak, is often where the strength you need begins to return.

A Short Prayer for When You Want to Give Up

Lord, I am tired, and some part of me wants to stop trying. You know exactly how heavy this has become. Thank you that your mercies are new each morning and that you do not grow weary as I do. Give me strength for the next step, not the whole road. Help me remember the passages I have read and let your word speak where my own thoughts fall silent. Keep me faithful until I see what you are doing. Amen.
