If you are looking for Bible readings for confirmations, this list gives you a set of passages that speak to making a public commitment to follow Christ, whether you are the one being confirmed, a parent, a sponsor or a teacher preparing a young person. Each reading is paired with a short reflection and a simple way to carry it into the days before and after the service.

These passages share a common thread: God starts the work, God keeps the work, and our part is to answer with trust, obedience and willingness to be seen as his people.

Verses for Standing Firm in Your Faith

Confirmation asks you to say out loud what you believe. These readings remind you that the foundation of that promise is God’s faithfulness, not your ability to never waver.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Joshua gathered the people and asked them to choose whom they would serve, and he chose for his own household too. Before the service, write your own version of that choice on an index card and place it where you will see it at breakfast.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

(WEB)

David’s song begins with light and salvation before it mentions any fear. When nerves rise on the day, say the first phrase slowly and let it name what is true before the feelings can speak.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists death, rulers, height and depth, and finds nothing that can separate believers from God’s love. Think of one thing you worry might come between you and God, then read this passage and name that thing in prayer as already covered.

Verses for Courage to Speak and Act

Saying yes to Christ in front of others can feel exposing. These passages speak to the courage that comes from God’s presence rather than from our own confidence.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God repeats the command to be strong and courageous, then gives the reason: he will be with you wherever you go. Repeat the last clause quietly as you walk toward the front of the church.

Matthew 10:32

Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.

(WEB)

Jesus says that whoever acknowledges him before others will be acknowledged before the Father. Think about how a simple, honest answer in front of your family and friends can be an act of worship.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

(WEB)

Paul reminds Timothy that God gives a spirit of power, love and self-control rather than fear. When you feel timid, pause and breathe in the sense that the courage you need is a gift you already have.

Acts 4:13

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled. They recognized that they had been with Jesus.

(WEB)

Peter and John were ordinary men who had been with Jesus, and that was enough to make others take notice. Remember that being shaped by time with Jesus matters more than being polished or impressive.

Verses for Growing in Faith and Service

A confirmation is a beginning as much as a moment. These readings point toward the ongoing life of prayer, learning and love that follows the day itself.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trusting the Lord with all your heart means leaning on him in decisions you do not yet understand. Choose one decision you face this month and ask God in writing to direct it.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Paul is confident that the God who began a good work will complete it. When you doubt your progress, return to this promise and recall that the work is his, not a test you must pass alone.

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

(WEB)

Micah sums up what the Lord requires as doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with God. Pick one of these three and look for one small way to practice it in your school, team or household this week.

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

(WEB)

Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit as a whole cluster of character rather than a checklist. Notice which of these qualities is growing in you and which needs prayer, and ask the Spirit to strengthen the one you find hardest.

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, that no one would boast.

(WEB)

Paul insists that salvation is a gift received by grace through faith, not earned by effort. On the day of confirmation, let this passage remind you that the commitment you make is a response to a gift already given.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three readings that speak most directly to your situation and copy them onto cards, into a journal or onto a note on your phone. Keep them where you will see them in the week before the service, such as on a mirror, inside a school bag or beside your bed.

Read them slowly, one at a time, and pray the reference back to God in your own words. Many people find it helpful to return to the same passage each morning for the first week after confirmation, so that the promise becomes part of their daily rhythm rather than a single memory.

A Short Prayer for Confirmation

Lord, thank you for calling me by name and for choosing me long before I chose you. Today I say yes to you, and I ask you to keep that yes steady when I feel nervous, unsure or tempted to hide. Give me courage to speak honestly, humility to keep learning, and a heart that trusts your timing.

Be with my family, my teachers and my friends who are watching. Let this day be the start of a life that belongs to you. Amen.
