This list gives young couples a set of Bible verses to read, remember and pray through as they build a shared life. It is for newlyweds, engaged couples and partners in the early years of marriage who want Scripture to shape how they love, forgive and face the future. Across these verses the same themes keep returning: love that is patient and kind, a commitment that holds steady, and a God who is faithful when plans and feelings shift.

Verses for Choosing Love Every Day

Early marriage is full of small daily choices about how to speak, serve and respond. The verses in this section describe love as a practice rather than a feeling, something chosen again each morning. Read them as a way of setting the tone for the day ahead.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6 doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

(WEB)

Paul describes love in concrete actions: patience, kindness, not keeping score. Pick one line and look for a chance to live it out before your partner gets home tonight, such as a kind word when you are tired.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

The writer observes that two people working together accomplish more than one alone, and that a partner can lift you when you fall. Name one task this week you will share on purpose, so the principle becomes a habit rather than an idea.

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.

(WEB)

Paul lists compassion, humility, gentleness and patience, then adds love as the thing that binds them together. Before a disagreement starts, ask which of these clothing pieces you need to put on first.

Verses for Forgiveness and Hard Conversations

Every couple eventually faces a disagreement that stings. These verses speak to the moment after an argument, when pride wants to win and grace is harder to offer. They point toward forgiveness that is rooted in what God has already given.

Ephesians 4:26-27

26 “Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 and don’t give place to the devil.

(WEB)

Paul acknowledges anger but warns against letting the sun go down on it, since unresolved anger gives room to bitterness. Set a rule with your partner that you will talk through conflict before bed, even if the talk is short.

Ephesians 4:31-32

31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

These verses call for putting away bitterness and wrath and being kind and tenderhearted, forgiving as God forgave you. When you feel the urge to bring up an old offense, pause and ask whether you are holding on to something God has already released.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

(WEB)

A gentle answer turns away wrath, while harsh words stir it up. The next time tension rises, lower your voice before you lower your guard, and let the softer tone do its work.

Verses for Trusting God With the Future

Young couples often carry questions about money, work, family and where life will lead. These verses root the future in God’s care and invite a couple to plan with open hands. They are meant to steady anxious hearts rather than erase every uncertainty.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean only on your own understanding. Talk together about one decision you are facing and ask God for direction in it before either of you settles on an answer.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

(WEB)

God speaks to exiles about plans for their welfare and a future with hope. Write down one hope you share as a couple and pray over it together, remembering that the God who holds your future is faithful.

Matthew 6:33-34

33 But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus tells listeners to seek God’s kingdom first and not to worry about tomorrow, since each day has enough trouble of its own. When planning feels overwhelming, take the next step together and leave the rest in God’s hands.

Verses for Serving Together

Marriage is shaped by how a couple treats others as much as how they treat each other. These verses direct attention outward, to hospitality, generosity and service. They remind a young couple that their life together is meant to bless people beyond their own home.

Romans 12:10

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another…

(WEB)

Paul urges believers to honor one another above themselves and to be devoted in affection. Look for one way to honor your partner in front of others this week, perhaps by naming a strength you admire.

Romans 12:13

Contributing to the needs of the saints; given to hospitality.

(WEB)

The call here is to share with the needs of God’s people and to practice hospitality. Invite another couple or a single friend for a meal and let your home become a place of welcome.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Bearing one another’s burdens fulfills the law of Christ, according to Paul. Ask each other what weight you are carrying right now and decide together how one of you can help lighten it.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on index cards and place them where you will see them, such as the bathroom mirror, the kitchen window or the dashboard. Choose one card each week to read aloud at breakfast or before bed. Keeping the verses visible helps them move from something you have read to something you remember in a hard moment.

Pray the verses back to God rather than only reading them. Turn a line like Proverbs 3:5-6 into a request for wisdom, or let Colossians 3:12-14 shape your confession after a rough day. Praying Scripture together, even for two minutes, builds a habit of bringing your marriage to God while you are still learning to speak to each other.

A Short Prayer for Young Couples

Lord, thank You for the gift of marriage and for the love You have placed between us. Teach us to be patient and kind when we are tired, to speak gently when we disagree, and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Where we are anxious about the future, remind us that You hold our days and our plans. Make our home a place of welcome for others, and let our love point people toward Your faithfulness. Amen.
