This prayer is for anyone who feels that their faith has gone flat, routine or distant, and who wants to know God more truly. You can pray it in the morning before the day begins, during a quiet evening, or whenever you notice that your heart is hungry for God. Read it aloud as written, or let it be a starting point and speak your own words where they fit your life.
Prayer for a Deeper Faith
Lord, you know how much I want to trust you, and you know how often my trust feels thin. Some days I go through the motions of prayer and church and Bible reading, and my heart feels like it is somewhere else. I worry that I am only keeping habits instead of walking with you. I ask you to meet me in the middle of that ordinary, tired faith and to make it real again.
Open my eyes to who you are. Let me see your faithfulness in the small things, in the daily bread, in the people who love me, and in the hard seasons I would rather skip. When doubts rise, steady me with the truth of your word. When I feel distant, remind me that you have never left my side. Make my faith something I actually live, not only something I believe in my head.
Father, grow in me a faith that is honest, patient and deep. Teach me to rest in you the way a child rests in a parent’s arms, without needing to have everything figured out. Draw me closer to you than I have been before, and let my life show it. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I want to know you more than I know anything else. I am tired, distracted and a little dry today, so I bring you the faith I have, which is smaller than I wish it were. Grow it, deepen it, and draw me near to you right now, in this ordinary moment. Amen.

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19 and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time when the house is quiet, perhaps early in the morning with a cup of coffee in your hands or in the car before you walk into work. Sit somewhere you can be still, and read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words settle. Some people find it helpful to write one line from the prayer on a card and keep it in a pocket or on the dashboard.
You can also pray this with someone else. A spouse, a close friend or a small group can read it together, taking turns with each paragraph. Ask them to pray for your faith in return, and let them tell you where they see God working in their own walk with him.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who has been faithful to you for all your days draw you ever closer to himself. May your faith grow deep roots in his love, and may you find him near in every ordinary moment. May the peace of God guard your heart as you seek him.
