A morning prayer to God is a way of handing the day to Him before the day hands you its demands. It is best prayed when you first wake, before you check your phone or open your inbox, while the house is still quiet. You can read the prayer below aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.
Morning Prayer to God
Father, I am awake, and I thank You for this new day. I did not make it, and I cannot promise myself anything in it, but You have held every morning since the first one. Before the noise starts, I want to settle my heart in Your presence. Quiet the worry I already feel about the meeting, the bills, the phone call I have been dreading, and the people who will need something from me before lunch.
Lord, go with me into the ordinary hours. Give me patience with the coworker who frustrates me, kindness for the child who is slow to get ready, and honesty in the conversations where I am tempted to hide. Help me notice the people You put in my path, not only the ones on my list. Where I will fall short today, meet me with grace, and let me return to You without shame. Let my work be done with care, and let my words be fewer than they are tempted to be.
Thank You for this breath, this coffee, this bed I just left, and the many small mercies I will overlook unless I look for them. Be my strength when I am tired and my wisdom when I am unsure. Walk ahead of me, beside me, and behind me today. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I start this day in Your hands. Be with me in what I must do and in what I cannot control. Keep my heart soft toward the people I meet and clear about what matters most. Give me enough grace for this morning and enough trust for the rest of the day. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try to pray it before your phone is in your hand, sitting on the edge of the bed or at the kitchen table with a cup of something warm. If your hands need something to do, hold your coffee mug, or open your Bible or prayer journal and rest your palm on the page. You might keep a short written copy on the counter so you can pray it again at noon if the morning goes sideways.
A parent, spouse, or friend can pray this prayer with you, or read it over you while you are getting ready. Some people find it helpful to pray the shorter version as they walk to the car or the bus stop, asking God to meet them in the next ten minutes. Whenever you pray it, let the closing lines stand as your handoff to Him for the day.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into this day and steady your steps. May He give you the peace that does not depend on how the hours unfold, and the courage to do what is good when no one is watching. May you feel His nearness in the small moments and rest in His faithfulness as the day ends.
