This daily prayer is for anyone standing at a fork in the road: a job offer in another city, a hard conversation that cannot be avoided, a medical choice, a decision about a marriage, a child, or money that has no clearly right answer. It is written to be prayed in the morning or in the quiet of the evening, before you lay the decision on the table and again before you go to sleep. You can read it aloud exactly as it appears, or use it as a starting point and speak your own worries in the same spirit.

Daily Prayer for Those Facing a Difficult Decision

Lord, you see the choice in front of me more clearly than I do. I have turned it over so many times that I can no longer tell which of my thoughts are wisdom and which are fear. Some nights I lie awake listing every possible outcome, and some mornings I feel too tired to think at all. Quiet my mind today. Show me what is true, what is mine to decide, and what I need to release into your hands.

Give me the honesty to name what I actually want and what I am only afraid of losing. Help me weigh the people this will touch, especially those who depend on me and those I love who have no voice in the matter. Where I have been carrying guilt or the expectations of others, lift that weight. Give me patience with my own uncertainty, and the courage to act once I have sought you, even if the path is not clear to my eyes. I trust that you are not surprised by this decision, and that you are already at work in every outcome. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am stuck between two good options and afraid of choosing the wrong one. Give me clarity in this moment, and steady my heart so that I can hear you over the noise of my own worry. Help me take the next faithful step, whatever it is, and trust you with the rest. Thank you that I am not facing this alone. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this slowly when your own reasoning feels exhausted. Ask God to help you lean on his understanding rather than only on the case you have built in your head, and to guide the steps you take as you go.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel foolish for not knowing the answer, pray this verse as a plain request. Ask God for wisdom in the specific decision before you, trusting that he gives generously and does not scold you for asking.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask God to teach and guide you one step at a time. Pray that you would notice his direction in ordinary moments, not only in dramatic signs.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Turn this passage into a prayer of handing over your anxiety. Name each worry specifically, then ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind to settle in as you set the decision down.

Isaiah 30:21

And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you are waiting for a clear word. Ask God to let you hear his voice behind you, saying, this is the way, and to give you the patience to walk in it even when the road ahead is dim.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed time each day, such as while your coffee brews or just before bed, and keep it short enough to repeat even on hard days. Sit somewhere quiet, and if it helps, write the decision and your main fears on a small card to hold in your hands while you pray. Holding something physical can keep your thoughts from drifting back into the same loop.

Consider inviting a trusted friend, a spouse, or your pastor to pray this with you, or to pray it for you on the days you cannot. Tell them the specific decision and ask them to hold you to the time you have set aside. Shared prayer often brings a calm that solitary worry cannot produce.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before them in every choice, and may he keep their heart steady when the answer is slow in coming. May they rest in his faithfulness, walk with courage in the light they have, and know that they are loved, guided, and held through every outcome.
