This simple prayer for children’s faith is written for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who wants to ask God to draw a child close to Him. You can pray it aloud exactly as written at bedtime, at the breakfast table or in the car on the way to school. You are also free to use it as a starting point and speak in your own words once the first lines are said.

Simple Prayer for Children’s Faith

Lord, thank You for the children You have placed in our lives. Some of them are asking questions we cannot answer, and some of them are quietly watching how we live. Help them to know You as real and near, not as a rule they are supposed to keep. Open their hearts to hear Your voice in the everyday moments, in a song, a sunset or a kind word from a friend.

Father, when they feel unsure, give them a steady sense that You are still with them. When they are tempted to think faith is only for grown-ups, remind them that You welcome them just as they are. Give them words to talk with You, and a desire to keep talking with You for the rest of their lives. Let them grow in trust one small step at a time.

Thank You that You never tire of their questions and never run out of patience with their growing. Guard their hearts from fear and from pride. Fill them with a love for Your Word and for Your people, so that their faith is their own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I bring this child to You right now. Open their heart to know that You love them, and help them trust You more each day. Keep their faith simple and strong, and let them feel Your nearness even when they cannot explain it. Thank You for hearing us, and for loving them more than we ever could. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time, such as bedtime, the morning drive or the moment before the meal, so the prayer becomes part of the rhythm of the day. Keep a Bible or a children’s storybook nearby, and let the child see you open it. If they are old enough, invite them to add one sentence of their own at the end.

Pray with your hands open, or rest a hand gently on the child’s shoulder or head as you speak. Other family members, a grandparent, a Sunday school teacher or a close friend can pray the same words for the child too. Their prayers, joined with yours, carry weight before God.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless this child and keep them in His care. May He make His face shine upon them and be gracious to them, and may they grow up knowing deeply that they are loved by the One who made them.
