This bedtime prayer is for the end of the day, when you want to set down what happened, thank God for the good in it, and ask for rest and protection through the night. Pray it in the last quiet minutes before sleep, sitting on the edge of the bed or lying in the dark. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Bedtime Prayer for Daily Blessings

Lord, thank You for this day. Thank You for the small mercies I almost missed: the warm cup in the morning, the sound of someone laughing in another room, the work that got finished, and the work that did not. You were present in all of it, even in the parts I did not notice. Forgive me for the things I said too quickly, the worry I carried when I should have handed it to You, and the moments I wanted to be somewhere else.

Now I set the day down in Your hands. Quiet my mind, which is still running through tomorrow’s list. Ease the tightness in my shoulders and the ache of tired eyes. Watch over the people I love tonight, especially those who are sick, grieving, far away, or lying awake with their own fears. Keep them safe in their sleep, and let them wake to a morning that holds more grace than they expect. Guard my home and my rest, and make the dark feel like Your care rather than my loneliness. Let me sleep knowing that I am known, forgiven, and held. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, thank You for today, the good parts and the hard ones. I give You what I could not finish and what I got wrong. Hold the people I love through the night, and calm the thoughts that keep me awake. Keep me safe while I sleep, and wake me to a new day in Your love. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

This verse is David’s own bedtime confidence. As you pray it, name the specific worries you are setting down, then rest in the simple fact that God keeps watch while you sleep.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to admit that you cannot hold the whole day together by effort alone. Thank God that He gives rest to those He loves, and ask Him to give you that rest tonight.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this passage over the day you are ending, especially if it was hard. Ask God to renew His mercy for tomorrow, and trust that His faithfulness does not run out at sunset.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

When you pray this for someone else, speak their name aloud. Ask God to keep their eyes closed in peace and their hearts watchful for Him, since He never sleeps and never tires.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this verse to bring each anxious thought to God in prayer with thanksgiving, not only the big fears but the small ones that keep returning. Ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind to settle over you as you close your eyes.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed time, such as after you turn off the lights or after the last dish is put away, so the prayer becomes a steady habit rather than something you remember only on hard nights. Keep a small notebook or your phone nearby and jot down one specific blessing from the day before you begin. Naming a real thing you are thankful for makes the thanksgiving in the prayer feel personal rather than general.

If you share a home, invite a spouse, child, or roommate to pray the prayer with you, or take turns reading the lines aloud. Parents can pray it over children at bedtime, changing the names and details to fit their own household. Even if you are alone, you can pray it for someone who is far away, and let that person’s name become part of your rest.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who made the day be the one who holds you through the night. May He keep your heart quiet, your home safe, and your sleep deep and unafraid. And may you wake to His mercy, which is new again in the morning.
