This bedtime prayer for daily grace is for the end of the day, when you are tired and the to-do list is still running in your head. It gives you words to hand the day over to God, ask for rest and protection through the night, and thank Him for the mercy you received even when you did not deserve it. Pray it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Bedtime Prayer for Daily Grace

Father, I come to You at the end of this day, and I am grateful You were with me in it. You saw the moments I handled well and the ones I handled badly. You saw the conversation I wish I had gone differently, the word I said too quickly, and the worry I carried when I should have brought it to You. Thank You that Your grace met me in all of it. Thank You that Your mercy is new every morning, even though I did nothing to earn it.

Now I lay down what I could not finish. I release the unanswered emails, the bills I could not pay, and the friend I am still concerned about. Take the weight of tomorrow from my shoulders tonight. Give my body real rest and my mind a quiet place to land. If I wake in the dark with fears, remind me that You do not sleep and that You keep watch over the people I love. Guard my home, guard my family, and guard my heart while I sleep.

Teach me to receive grace the way I receive sleep, without striving and without pretending I am stronger than I am. Help me begin tomorrow already in Your hands, ready to be patient with the people who test me, honest with myself, and kind when kindness costs something. Whatever tomorrow holds, let me meet it with Your strength and not my own. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired and I am done for today. Thank You for every mercy I received, especially the ones I did not notice. Take what I could not finish and what I carried too long. Give me rest tonight and protect the people I love. Let me wake tomorrow already leaning on Your grace. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray these words as a thank you for the fresh start that comes with each morning. Ask God to help you trust that His compassion did not run out during the day you just finished, and will not run out tomorrow.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Read this slowly as you lie down. Let it become a statement of trust, naming God as the one who keeps you safe while you are unconscious and unable to protect yourself.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release the pressure to keep working or worrying after dark. Ask God to give you the rest He already provides to those He loves, and to free you from the belief that everything depends on you.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your heaviest burden to Jesus in this verse. Name the specific weight you are carrying tonight, and ask Him to exchange it for the rest He offers to anyone who comes to Him.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Pray this as a request for protection through the night. Ask God to watch over your household while you sleep, trusting that the One who keeps Israel never dozes off.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer in the last few minutes before you turn off the light, ideally in the same spot each night, such as the edge of your bed or a chair beside it. Before you begin, put your phone face down or across the room. Holding a small object, such as a folded note of the day’s wins and losses or a cup of water, can help your hands and mind settle together.

If you share a home, consider praying it aloud for a spouse, child, or roommate, changing the pronouns to “them” and “they.” Parents can pray it over children at bedtime, and couples can take turns speaking a line each. The prayer works just as well when you are alone, and it can be prayed in a whisper if the house is quiet.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who gave you this day give you rest in the night. May His grace follow you into tomorrow, steady and faithful, meeting you in every hard conversation and every quiet moment. May you wake refreshed, knowing you are held.
