This bedtime prayer for daily peace is written for the end of the day, when the to-do list is still running in your head and sleep feels further away than it should. Pray it quietly before you turn out the light, reading it aloud as written or using it as a starting point for your own words. Either way, it gives your tired mind a place to set the day down.

Bedtime Prayer for Daily Peace

Lord, I come to you at the close of this day. Some of it went well, and some of it did not. I replayed a conversation that stung, I worried about the bills, and I felt the quiet ache of a friendship that has drifted. I am handing you the parts I could not fix. Take the weight of what I carried today, and take the things I left unfinished.

Be my rest tonight. Quiet the voices that keep rehearsing tomorrow’s problems, and remind me that you already know what I will face. Watch over the people I love while they sleep, especially those who are anxious, sick, or far away. Keep the house calm and the night safe, and let my body loosen the way it cannot while I am still trying to hold everything together.

Thank you for the small mercies of this day: the warm drink, the sound of a familiar voice, the moment the light caught the window. Help me remember these gifts when I wake. Let your peace settle over me like a blanket, and let me sleep without guilt for what I did not finish. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired and my mind will not stop. I give you today’s worries and tomorrow’s unknowns. Calm my thoughts and keep my family safe through the night. Let me rest in the knowledge that you are awake when I am not. Thank you for this day, even the hard parts. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

Pray this verse as you lie down, taking each phrase slowly. Ask God to let you lie down and sleep without fear, trusting that your safety does not depend on your vigilance.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Read this verse as permission to stop striving. Name the tasks you are still carrying, then ask God to receive your effort and give you rest that you have not earned.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage to bring each worry to God by name. Pray the verse slowly, and when peace comes, thank God for guarding your heart and mind through the night.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by fixing your thoughts on God’s faithfulness. Ask him to steady a restless mind, so that your thoughts settle on him rather than on the day’s problems.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your exhaustion to Jesus in the words of this verse. Ask him to take what is heavy in your life, and imagine setting it down at the foot of his cross as you drift off.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed moment in your evening, such as after you brush your teeth or once the lights are dimmed. Sit on the edge of your bed or kneel beside it, and keep a hand open on your lap or on the blanket, so that your body knows it is letting go. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to breathe.

If you share your home, invite someone to pray it with you, or read it aloud to a child before bed. Parents, partners, and friends can take turns speaking the lines, which often turns a lonely routine into a shared rest. Keep a copy somewhere easy to find so the words are ready on the nights when your mind is too full to think of your own.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over his people give you rest tonight. May he quiet every worry and guard your home through the dark hours. May you wake to a new morning with a heart that remembers how faithfully you were held.
