This simple prayer for daily wisdom is written for the moment you wake up and realize the day already has decisions waiting in it. Pray it in the morning before your phone or your inbox takes over, or return to it at a midday pause when a choice feels heavier than you expected. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Simple Prayer for Daily Wisdom

Lord, I come to you before the day begins. I don’t know what the next hours will bring: the conversations I’ll have, the emails that need answers, the small choices about money, time, and what to say when someone is upset with me. Thank you that you already know every one of them. Please give me a clear mind this morning and a steady heart that doesn’t rush ahead of you.

Give me wisdom for the ordinary things, not only for the big decisions. Help me to notice when I’m about to speak in anger or spend without thinking. Show me what matters most today, so I can let the less important things go. When I feel unsure, slow me down enough to ask you before I act. Where I have failed you or others, forgive me, and teach me the better way.

I trust that you give wisdom generously to anyone who asks. So I ask now, for myself and for the people I will meet today. Guide my steps, guard my tongue, and keep my eyes on you through every hour. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I need wisdom right now, and I don’t have time for a long prayer. Show me the next right step. Help me hear what to say and what to leave unsaid. Calm my thoughts so I can see clearly, and keep me close to you while I work through this. Thank you that you are always near. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming one decision you face today and asking God to give wisdom for it. Notice the promise that God gives generously and without scolding, and let that shape how boldly you ask.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Read these verses slowly and pause at the word “lean.” Ask God to show you where you have been relying on your own understanding, and offer those areas back to him for direction.

Psalm 25:4-5

4 Show me your ways, the LORD. Teach me your paths. 5 Guide me in your truth, and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long.

(WEB)

Turn these words into a request: show me your ways, teach me your paths. Pray them especially when you feel you are guessing your way through a situation and want God to point the way.

Proverbs 2:6

For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

(WEB)

Pray this verse with gratitude, thanking God that wisdom comes from him and not only from our own effort. Ask him to make you a listener who receives what he gives.

Psalm 90:12

So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray about how you spend your days. Ask God to help you number your hours wisely, so that your time reflects what matters most to him.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer while they are still in bed, or while the coffee is brewing, before the first task of the day begins. Keep a notebook or a note on your phone nearby, and jot down one or two things that come to mind as you pray. Those notes often become the specific decisions you bring back to God later in the day.

If you pray with someone else, such as a spouse, a friend, or a child who is old enough to understand, take turns reading a line each. You might also write the prayer on an index card and tuck it into your wallet or bag. A short glance at it during a tense meeting or a long drive can bring your heart back to God in seconds.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give you wisdom for every choice this day, and may he make his ways plain to you as you walk them. May he guard your words, steady your heart, and show you the good path with clear and gentle light.
