This short morning prayer for generosity is meant to be prayed before the day gets going, while the coffee is still hot and your to-do list is still mostly in your head. It asks God to loosen your grip on money, time and attention so you can notice the people and needs in front of you. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names and tasks of your own day.
Short Morning Prayer for Generosity
Lord, I start this day already thinking about what I need to get done, what I can’t afford, and how little time I seem to have. Before any of that takes over, I want to place my hands open before You. Everything I have came from You, and I am only a steward of it. Help me remember that the money in my account, the hours on my calendar and the energy I bring to my work are gifts meant to be shared, not hoarded out of fear.
Show me where You want me to give today. It may be a bill I can help with, a coworker who looks worn out, a neighbor who needs a ride, or a friend who needs me to listen longer than I planned. Keep me from rushing past those moments because I am busy or worried about running short. Give me the courage to say yes when generosity costs me something, and the wisdom to give in ways that actually help. Soften my heart toward people I would rather ignore, and remind me that every gift I make is ultimately an offering back to You.
Go before me into this day. Guard my words so they build people up, and guard my hands so they are ready to serve. When I feel scarcity creeping in, speak to me of Your provision and let me trust that You will supply what I truly need. Make me a person who gives freely because I have been given so much. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I give You this morning and everything in it. Open my hands before I reach for what is mine. Show me one person I can bless today, and give me the willingness to act on it without overthinking. Let my generosity this day point people back to Your kindness. Amen.

Ask God to make your giving sincere and quiet, done for Him rather than for applause. Pray that your generosity today would be known to Him even if no one else sees it.
How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer while you are still in your kitchen, on the porch, or at the edge of your bed before you pick up your phone. Holding a warm mug or a pen in your hand can help you slow down and mean each line. If you already have a short list of people or needs you expect to meet today, pause after the second paragraph and name them one at a time before God.
You can also pray this together with a spouse, a roommate or a friend who keeps the same early hours. Taking turns to say a line each can turn a private habit into a shared commitment to open-handed living. Some people keep a small envelope or jar by the door as a physical reminder, and pray over it each morning as they pack up for the day.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who gave you everything you have open your eyes to those who need you today. May He give you a generous heart, a steady hand and the joy that comes from sharing what you have been given. May you walk into this day knowing you are loved, provided for and free to bless others.
