This evening prayer is for the end of a working day, when you want to hand your employees, their families and their work to God before you rest. Pray it at home after work, in the car on the way back, or at the close of a shift. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Evening Prayer for My Employees

Lord, thank you for this day and for the people you have placed in my care at work. You know each of them by name, and you know what they carried home with them tonight: the deadline that slipped, the customer who was unkind, the worry about rent, the child waiting up with a fever, the parent who is getting older. I ask that you meet them in those places. Let them set down what was heavy in their hands today, and let them find that you were already present in the hard hours.

Where anyone is tired, give them rest that goes deeper than sleep. Where anyone is anxious about money, their future or their health, steady their hearts and remind them that they are not carrying it alone. Where there was conflict between them, or between them and me, bring honest apologies and gentle forgiveness. Help me to be fair, patient and kind in the ways I failed to be today, and show me where I need to ask for pardon.

Watch over them through the night. Guard their homes, their sleep and their coming and going on the roads. Remind them of what is good about their work and about who they are apart from their job. And when morning comes, give them strength for what lies ahead. Thank you that you never tire and never sleep. Into your hands I commit my team tonight. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my team is in your hands tonight. Give them rest, protect their homes and families, and carry the weight they could not set down today. Forgive what went wrong between us, and help us begin again in the morning with grace. Keep them safe until the sun comes up. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for each person on your team as they go to bed. It names the peace that comes from God alone, not from a finished to-do list, and asking for that peace over them is a way of trusting God with the nights you cannot control.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release the habit of worry that follows people home from work. Ask God to remind your employees that rest is a gift he gives, and that effort without trust leads to exhaustion.

Matthew 11:28-29

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

(WEB)

Bring the weary and burdened members of your team to Jesus in prayer. Ask that they would hear his invitation to come and find rest, and that they would learn to lay down pressures that were never theirs to carry alone.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this over the people you lead as a reminder that God’s mercy is new each morning. Ask that tomorrow would bring them fresh compassion, and that today’s failures and disappointments would not have the final word.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use these verses for any employee who went to bed anxious tonight. Pray that they would bring their requests to God with thanksgiving, and that the peace of God would guard their hearts and minds through the night.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment at the end of the workday, before you pick up your phone or start on dinner. Sit somewhere you can be still, perhaps at your kitchen table or in your parked car, and hold a pen or a list of your team’s names in your hands. Pray through the names slowly, pausing after each one to picture that person at home and to ask God for what they specifically need.

If you lead others in faith, invite a spouse, a pastor or a fellow believer on your staff to pray this with you, or ask a trusted coworker to pray it over the team on a weekly basis. Consider sharing the shorter version in a group message on hard days, so your employees know they are being remembered in prayer as well.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over his people keep watch over you and over everyone you work alongside. May he give them restful sleep, steady hearts and safe homes tonight, and may he meet each of them with grace when the morning comes.
