This bedtime prayer is for my family’s future, for the people you love who will carry tomorrow, next year and the years beyond. Pray it at the end of the day, once the house is quiet and before you fall asleep, and read it aloud as written or use it as a starting point for your own words.
Bedtime Prayer for My Family’s Future
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring my family to you before I rest. You know each of them by name: the ones who are growing up, the ones who are working hard to build something, and the ones who are tired or worried in ways they have not told me. I ask you to watch over their schooling, their jobs, their health and their friendships, and to open doors that are good for them while closing the ones that would harm them.
I ask for wisdom for each decision they will face, the big ones and the small ones that add up over a lifetime. Guard their hearts from bitterness and fear, and give them a steady sense of who they are in you. Where our family has been broken or strained, mend what I cannot fix, and let the years ahead be marked by honesty, patience and love. Tonight I release my own need to control what comes next. Hold them through the night and into the morning. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, you already know what my family needs for the days ahead. Keep them safe while they sleep, give them wisdom for tomorrow, and help them grow in trust toward you. Protect our home, our health and our hearts, and let the future you have planned for us be one where we love you and each other well. I rest them in your hands tonight. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a fixed time each night, such as after the last light is switched off or while you tuck in the youngest child, so the prayer becomes a steady habit rather than something you remember only on hard nights. Sitting on the edge of a bed or standing at the bedroom window works well, and holding a photo of your family or resting a hand on a child’s blanket can help your attention stay on the people you are praying for.
Invite your spouse, a grandparent, an older child or a close friend to pray this prayer with you, taking turns through the paragraphs or naming different family members aloud. Keep a short list of their current concerns on your phone or in a notebook so the prayer stays specific, and add to it as needs change over time.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord keep you and your family in his care tonight and in every season to come. May he give you rest that restores body and mind, wisdom for the choices ahead, and a deep assurance that you are known and loved. May the future he is writing for you be filled with his faithfulness.
