This bedtime prayer is for the night before, during, or after your husband’s work. It is written for the evening, when the day is closing and the worries he carried home are still close at hand. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Bedtime Prayer for My Husband’s Work

Lord, thank you for the day that is ending. Thank you for the work you gave my husband to do, for the people he met, the problems he worked through, and the small mercies that came in the middle of ordinary hours. Some of it went well and some of it did not. Tonight I bring all of it to you and ask you to take it from his shoulders, because I know he cannot carry it alone and was never meant to.

I pray for his mind tonight. Where he is still replaying a meeting, a deadline, or a conversation that went badly, quiet it. Where he is anxious about what comes tomorrow, give him enough peace to sleep. Protect him from the fear that his worth depends on his output, and remind him that he is loved by you whether or not the numbers climbed or the project landed. Give him rest that goes deeper than sleep.

Watch over him as he drives, as he rests, and as he dreams. Guard his health, his integrity, and his relationships with the people he works beside, including the ones who are difficult to like. Keep him from bitterness toward those who have wronged him, and from pride when things go well. Let tomorrow come with fresh strength and fresh eyes. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my husband is tired tonight. Calm the thoughts that keep him awake and let his body rest. Hold his work in your hands, the parts he can finish and the parts he cannot. Protect him while he sleeps, keep his heart steady, and wake him tomorrow ready to trust you again. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your husband as he lies down. It names the peace that comes from God alone, not from a finished to-do list or a settled conflict. Ask God to let him rest in that safety tonight.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This verse reminds us that anxious striving does not earn sleep or success. Pray that your husband would stop trying to hold everything up himself and receive the rest God gives to those he loves.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks this to people who are weary and burdened. Pray that your husband would bring his exhaustion from work to Jesus, and that he would feel the invitation to come and rest rather than push on alone.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Peter invites believers to hand over their worries to God because he cares for them. Pray that your husband would release the anxieties he has picked up at work and leave them in God’s care before he closes his eyes.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul links prayer with a peace that guards the heart and mind. Ask God to replace your husband’s worry about work with the kind of peace that makes no sense on paper but holds steady through the night.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer at the end of the evening, once the lights are low and the day’s conversations have slowed. You might sit together on the edge of the bed or stand side by side in the kitchen while the dishes dry. If he is already asleep, pray quietly beside him, or pray for him in the room next door. Holding his hand or resting a hand on his shoulder can make the words feel nearer.

Invite others to pray with you, too. A friend from church, a small group, or a brother or sister who knows your husband’s workplace can lift his concerns when you are too tired to find the words. Consider writing the prayer on a card and leaving it on his side of the bed, so he can read it himself before sleep.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep your husband safe through this night and bring him into the morning with a settled heart. May his work be a place where he serves faithfully, and may he find rest in the one who has never stopped caring for him.
