This evening prayer is for asking God to watch over your mother and father’s bodies while you rest, and for placing their health in his hands before you close your eyes. You can pray it at bedtime, after dinner, or whenever the day has ended and worry is still sitting with you. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit your parents better.
Evening Prayer for My Parents’ Health
Lord, the day is ending and I am bringing you my mom and dad. You know the doctor’s visits, the medications lined up on the kitchen counter, the test results we are still waiting on, and the tiredness in their faces that I notice even when they say they are fine. You know every ache they have not mentioned and every fear they have kept to themselves. Nothing about their bodies is hidden from you, and nothing is too small to bring to you tonight.
I ask you to be near them while they sleep. Give them rest that is deep and restoring, and let their hearts, lungs, joints and minds settle into peace. Guard them from pain that keeps them awake, from falls in the dark, and from fear that whispers in the quiet hours. Where illness has already taken hold, be the healer I cannot be, and give the doctors and nurses wisdom and steady hands.
Thank you for the years you have given us with them and for the care they have shown me. Help me trust that you hold their lives more tightly than I ever could. I release my worry into your care tonight and ask you to keep watch while I sleep. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I give you my parents’ health tonight. Be close to them while they rest, ease their pain, and keep them safe until morning. Strengthen their bodies, calm their worries, and bring healing where it is needed. I trust you with them, because you never sleep and you never fail to care for those you love. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet moment after the house has settled, perhaps after you have checked on your parents or spoken with them on the phone. Sit somewhere comfortable, and let your hands rest open in your lap, or hold a photo of them or a small cross. Speaking slowly helps the words reach your heart as well as your mind.
You do not need to pray this alone. Invite your spouse, a sibling, or a friend to pray it with you, or to read it aloud while you listen. Many families find that praying together at the end of the day gives everyone a shared place to bring their fears and their thanks before they sleep.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who never slumbers keep your mother and father safe through this night, and may you rest in the knowledge that they are held in his care. May his peace settle over your home, your heart, and theirs, and may the morning bring them strength for the day ahead.
