An evening prayer for my work is a way to set the day down before God once your shift, meeting or task list is finished. Pray it at the end of the workday, in the car on the drive home, or at the kitchen table before dinner. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own concerns in the spaces it leaves open.

Evening Prayer for My Work

Father, the day is ending, and I bring my work to you. Thank you for the strength you gave me to show up, for the people I got to help, and for the small things that went well when I did not expect them to. Thank you for the problems that got solved, even the ones that took longer than I wanted. I lay down the emails I did not answer, the deadline I am still carrying, and the conversation that did not go the way I hoped.

Forgive me where I was impatient, where I cut corners, or where I let pride or fear make my decisions. Show me what I need to learn from today and what I can simply let go. Be with my coworkers and my boss tonight, and give them rest as well. If someone is struggling in my office or on my team, watch over them and bring them peace.

Guard my sleep and my mind as I go to bed. Keep worry from following me home, and help me remember that my worth does not rise and fall with my productivity. Prepare me for tomorrow with a steady heart, and let me work well because I trust you, not because I am afraid of falling short. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am done for today, and I give you my work, both what got finished and what did not. Thank you for the help you gave me. Forgive what I did poorly, and take the weight of tomorrow out of my hands for now. Let me rest tonight knowing you are still at work in my life. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Praying this verse for your work reminds you that effort matters but is not the whole story. Thank God for the rest he gives, and ask him to help you stop striving at the end of the day.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask God to shape the way you approached your tasks today. Pray that your work was offered to him, and that his approval, not your boss’s mood, set the standard.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring the tiredness of the day to Jesus by praying this invitation over yourself. Ask him to take the exhaustion you feel after work and give you the rest only he can offer.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your deeds to the LORD, and your plans shall succeed.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over the work still ahead of you, asking God to direct your plans. Let the prayer be a handing over of tomorrow’s goals to his guidance rather than your own anxiety.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

This verse fits well as a closing prayer for your night. Ask God to grant you peace and safety while you sleep, so that the next morning begins without dread.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a set moment near the end of your workday, such as when you close your laptop, park the car at home, or wash your hands before dinner. Doing something physical while you pray, like placing your work badge on a shelf or turning off the lights in your office, can help mark the shift from working to resting. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to notice what you feel.

If you work with others, you might pray this prayer together with a spouse, a roommate, or a friend who understands your job. Ask them to name one thing from their own day they want to release, then pray it over each other. Over time, this habit can make evenings feel less like a continuation of the office and more like a place of rest.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who watched over your work today also watch over your rest tonight. May he meet you in the quiet after the noise, and remind you that you are known by name, not by output. May you wake refreshed, with a steady heart ready for the day God gives.
