This short morning prayer is for parents and caregivers who want to lift their children to God before the day starts. Pray it as the first thing in the morning, while the house is still quiet, or in the car on the way to school. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Short Morning Prayer for Our Children

Lord, thank You for the gift of this new morning and for the children You have placed in our care. Before they wake fully, before the cereal spills and the shoes go missing, we bring them to You. Go before them today into the classroom, the playground, and the hallway where friendships are tested. Give them courage when they feel small and kindness when they are tempted to be unkind.

Protect their bodies and their minds. Keep them safe on the roads, near the water, and on every stairway. Guard their hearts from fear and from comparison, and remind them that they are loved just as they are. Help them to listen well to their teachers, to obey us with cheerful hearts, and to speak honestly about what they are facing. Give us patience when we are tired, and wisdom when we do not know what to say. Let our home be a place where Your peace is felt. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, we give our children to You this morning. Walk with them through every class, every conversation, and every hard moment. Keep them safe, make them kind, and let them feel Your nearness today. Help us to trust You with what we cannot control and to love them well until we see them again tonight. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a specific moment, such as while the coffee brews, in the minutes before you wake the children, or as you drive them to school. Keep a small reminder near the kitchen sink or on the dashboard so the habit becomes part of your routine. If you have a spouse or another adult in the home, invite them to pray it with you, taking turns on each paragraph.

Try holding something in your hands while you pray, such as a child’s school bag, a cup of tea, or a photo of each child. Let the physical object remind you to name that child before God. Over time, you may find it easy to add a sentence about a particular friend, teacher, or challenge that is on their mind.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless these children and keep them. May He make His face shine upon them and be gracious to them. May they walk through this day knowing they are known, guided, and deeply loved by the One who made them.
