This prayer is for a church family asking God to guide, protect and strengthen the people who gather under its roof. Pray it on a Sunday morning before the service, during a midweek prayer meeting, or quietly at home when the congregation is on your heart. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Christian Prayer for Our Church
Lord, thank You for this church and for the people You have gathered here. Some of us arrive tired from work, some carry grief we have not spoken aloud, and some are new and unsure whether they belong. Meet each person where they are. Give our pastors wisdom when they preach and patience when they counsel. Keep our leaders humble, honest and close to You, and protect them from the burnout that comes so easily to those who give so much.
Bind us together as one body, Father. Where there is quarrelling, give us the courage to reconcile. Where there is gossip, soften our tongues. Help the elderly among us feel valued, help the young families find real friendship, and help the lonely find a seat at the table. Let our children grow up knowing Your love through the way we treat them. Make our giving generous, our doors open and our welcome warm to anyone who walks in. Use us to reach the neighbors we pass every day. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, bless our church today. Strengthen our pastors, comfort those who are hurting, and draw us closer to one another and to You. Make us a welcoming people and a faithful people. Guard our leaders, keep our hearts soft and our hands open to serve. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray this for the church’s witness in your town. Ask God to add to your numbers those who are being saved, and to give your congregation the same glad, generous spirit the early believers showed.
How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find early morning works best, before the day’s noise begins. Sit at a kitchen table or in a quiet corner with a cup of coffee, and read the main prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to think of a specific person in your church. Pray their name aloud if you feel comfortable doing so. Keeping a pen nearby can help too, since you may want to write down a name or need to bring back to the Sunday prayer team.
You can also pray this with another member of your church, such as a small group leader, a spouse or a friend from the choir. Take turns reading the paragraphs, and let each person add a sentence of their own. Praying together often reminds people that the church is not a building or a program, but a family that carries one another before the Lord.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless this church and keep every member close to His heart. May He make His face shine upon our pastors and families, grant them peace in their homes and joy in their service, and send them out each week with courage and love.
