This prayer is for the moments when worry keeps circling and your thoughts will not settle. It is written to be prayed in the morning before the day gets loud, late at night when sleep feels far away, or anytime a fear rises up faster than you can name it. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own worries in the same spirit.

Prayer for Overcoming Worry

Father, I come to you with a mind that keeps running ahead of me. I worry about money that doesn’t stretch far enough, about the phone call I’m afraid to get, about the health of people I love, and about whether I am doing enough for the people who depend on me. Some of these fears are real, and some are only what-ifs that I keep replaying until they feel like facts. Show me which burdens are mine to carry and which ones I have been holding for you.

Quiet my heart where it is racing. Loosen my grip on the things I cannot control, and remind me that you already know every detail of my day. Help me take the next small step in front of me, whether that is paying the bill, making the call, or simply breathing slowly and trusting that tomorrow is in your hands too. Give me the peace that does not depend on my circumstances changing first. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my thoughts are spinning and I cannot stop them on my own. I bring you this worry right now, and I give you the part of it I cannot solve. Steady my breathing and steady my heart. Remind me that you are near, that you are good, and that I do not have to face this alone. Help me rest in you for this next minute, and trust you with the rest. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Paul names anxiety directly and then points to prayer and thanksgiving as the way to bring it to God. When worry starts to build, you can pray these words slowly, handing over each concern by name.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

This verse invites you to unload your cares onto God because he genuinely cares for you. Read it as an invitation: name the worry you are holding, then set it down in prayer.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

When fear makes everything feel urgent, this verse calls you to stop and know that God is God. Let it slow your breathing and pull your attention back to who he is.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks plainly about tomorrow’s troubles. Pray this verse when your mind jumps ahead, asking God to give you only what today needs.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

This verse links peace with a mind that stays fixed on God. Pray it by bringing your attention back to him each time it drifts toward the worry.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helps to pray this prayer first thing in the morning, before checking messages or the news, so that the day starts with God rather than with anxiety. If worry hits at night, keep a short version in mind and whisper it while you lie still. You can also pray with your hands: open them on your lap as you speak, then rest them on your knees, as a physical way of releasing what you are carrying.

It can also help to write your worries on a piece of paper and read the prayer over that list, one item at a time. If you have a trusted friend, pastor, or family member, ask them to pray this with you, or to pray for you by name. Worry often shrinks when it is spoken aloud in the presence of someone who cares.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who calms the storm settle your heart today. May he meet each worry with his steady presence and give you enough peace for the next step. May you rest in the knowledge that you are held, known, and loved, and that you do not carry tomorrow alone.
