This short prayer for peace and healing is for the moments when your mind is racing, your body feels worn down, or you simply do not know how to ask God for what you need. It can be prayed in the morning before the day gets loud, at a hospital bedside, late at night when sleep will not come, or in the car between appointments. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words where your heart needs them.

Short Prayer for Peace and Healing

Lord, you know the weight I am carrying today. You know the worries that keep me awake, the fear I try to hide from the people around me, and the tiredness that has settled into my body and my spirit. I do not want to pretend I am fine. I bring you the pain I feel, the diagnosis I am still trying to understand, the relationship that feels broken, and the questions I cannot answer on my own.

Be near to me in this. Calm the restless thoughts that keep circling back to what might go wrong. Let your peace guard my heart when I cannot make sense of anything. Touch my body where it hurts and heal what needs healing, in the way that is best for me. Give strength to the people who are caring for me and wisdom to the ones who are making decisions. Where I cannot rest, rest in you for me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am anxious and I am hurting. Settle my mind and steady my breathing. Heal what is sick in me and in the people I love, and give me your peace right now, even before I understand how you will answer. I trust you with this moment and with what comes after it. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul names the exact habit this prayer builds: bring the worry to God in prayer rather than carrying it alone. Read it slowly, then pray the specific anxieties on your mind and ask for the peace that goes beyond understanding.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

This verse speaks directly to God as the one who binds up wounds and heals the broken in heart. Pray it by naming the wound, whether physical, emotional or relational, and asking him to be the one who tends it.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

(WEB)

Jesus gives his peace in a way the world does not, and he tells his friends not to let their hearts be troubled. Pray it by receiving that peace as a gift and asking him to help you believe it in the middle of the trouble.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God speaks to his people in fear and promises his presence, strength and help. Pray it as a personal word, speaking the “I am with you” into your own situation and asking him to make it real to you today.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

The psalmist names God as refuge and strength even when the earth seems to shake. Pray it when everything feels unstable, asking God to be the steady place you can run to and rest in.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose one moment in your day to pray this prayer on purpose, such as when you first sit down with your coffee, during your lunch break, or just before you turn off the light at night. Find a quiet spot if you can, and keep a pen or your phone nearby so you can write down the specific worries you name. Pressing your hands together, resting them open on your lap, or holding something cool like a glass of water can help your body settle while your words catch up.

If you are praying for someone else who is sick or struggling, read the prayer aloud in the first person as a way of standing with them, and then pray it again using their name in place of yours. You might invite a friend or family member to pray it with you by phone or in person. Two people asking together for peace and healing can be a comfort both to the one who is hurting and to the one who is praying.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless you and keep you in this season. May he lift the weight from your shoulders and fill your heart with a peace that holds steady when everything else shifts. May his healing reach where you are hurting, and may you know that you are held, seen and deeply loved.
