This daily prayer for rebuilding trust is for the moments when a relationship has been broken and you want to believe again, in God and in the people around you. Pray it in the morning before the day’s conversations begin, or in the evening when the day’s hurts come back to mind. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Daily Prayer for Rebuilding Trust

Lord, you know how hard it has become to believe people again. Someone let me down, or I let someone down, and now I find myself watching every word, bracing for the next disappointment, or quietly keeping score. Some mornings I want to trust and cannot make my heart follow. I bring that honestly to you, because you already see it.

Help me take one honest step today. Show me whether I need to forgive, whether I need to speak up with calm and clear words, or whether I need to wait and let time show who is faithful. Guard me from pretending everything is fine, and guard me from becoming bitter. Give me patience with myself when old fear rises up, and courage to be vulnerable only where it is wise.

Be the steady ground under my feet. Where I have failed to be reliable, soften my heart to repair what I can. Where others have failed me, give me grace that does not excuse harm but does not hold it forever either. Let my trust rest first in your faithfulness, so that whatever happens with people, I am not left empty. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tense and suspicious right now, and I do not want to carry that into the next conversation. Steady my heart. Remind me that you have never broken a promise, and let that truth loosen my grip on fear. Help me speak and listen with honesty and patience, one moment at a time. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when fear is loud. Name the specific fear you feel about trusting again, and then say that you choose to put your trust in God instead of letting the fear decide for you.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and pause at the word “lean.” Ask God to show you where you have been leaning on your own understanding of who can be trusted, and to guide your steps with more wisdom.

Psalm 62:8

Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pour out everything you feel without editing it. Tell God about the disappointment and the anger, and let this verse remind you that he is a safe place to bring all of it.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When trust feels used up, pray this verse as a reminder that God’s faithfulness is renewed each morning. Thank him for one small evidence of that faithfulness from the day before.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the person who hurt you and for yourself. Ask God to help you extend kindness and forgiveness as far as you are able, and to show you what healthy boundaries look like alongside that grace.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helps to pray this in the first few minutes after waking, before the phone or the day’s messages take over. Sit somewhere quiet, such as the edge of your bed or a chair by a window, and keep a pen nearby. After each paragraph, pause and write one sentence about what you noticed or felt. Over several days, those sentences often show you what God is slowly changing.

If you are rebuilding trust in a marriage, friendship, or working relationship, consider asking a trusted friend, pastor, or small group to pray this with you or for you. Some people also hold a stone or a ring in their hand while praying, letting the physical weight remind them to bring the burden to God rather than carry it alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps every promise steady your heart and make your footing firm again. May you be given wisdom to tell safe people from unsafe ones, patience for the slow work of repair, and a peace that does not depend on how others behave today. May you walk into this day knowing you are held.
