This daily prayer for recovery from illness is written for the mornings, evenings or quiet moments when you are sick, worn out, or caring for someone who is. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit. Pray it as often as you need, because healing is often a slow road and God welcomes the same request repeated day after day.
Daily Prayer for Recovery From Illness
Lord, you know exactly how I feel this morning. My body is tired, my thoughts are foggy, and some days it is hard to believe I will ever feel like myself again. I bring you the symptoms I can name and the ones I cannot. I ask for rest that actually restores me, for medicine and care to do their work, and for wisdom for the doctors and nurses who are caring for me. Give me patience with my own limits, and keep me from measuring my progress only by what I can no longer do.
I also bring you the fears that come when the night is quiet. I worry about the bills piling up, about missing work or time with my family, and about whether this illness will return. Quiet those worries and remind me that you are present in the waiting room, the hospital bed and the long afternoon on the couch. Restore my strength in body, mind and spirit, and let me receive the help others offer without shame. Heal what needs healing, and where recovery is slower than I want, give me your peace while I wait. Thank you that I am not alone in this. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am weak and I am tired, and I need your healing today. Be near me in this pain and in this uncertainty. Strengthen my body, calm my fears, and guide the people caring for me. Help me rest in you when I cannot do anything else. Let my recovery be part of your good work in my life. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer first thing in the morning, before checking messages or thinking about the day’s demands. Keep a glass of water and your medicine within reach, and sit or lie in a comfortable position as you read. If your hands are shaky or your eyes are tired, you can have someone read it aloud to you, or simply listen to a recording of your own voice reading it.
You may also invite a family member, friend or pastor to pray it with you or for you. Some people keep a small notebook beside the bed and write one line each day about how they are doing, then pray the prayer again in the evening with that note in front of them. Whatever form it takes, let the prayer be a regular place where you bring your body, your worries and your hope to God.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who made your body be near to restore it, and may his peace guard your heart while you heal. May the people who love you carry you well, and may each day bring you a little more strength than the one before. Let rest come easily, and let hope grow steadily until you are well again.
