This short morning prayer is for the strained or broken relationships you carry into the day, whether with a spouse, a parent, a child, a friend, or a coworker. Pray it first thing, while the house is quiet, before the messages and the meetings begin. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Short Morning Prayer for Restored Relationships
Lord, I wake up today carrying a relationship that has been hard. I think about the words that were said, the silence that followed, and the distance that has grown since. Before I reach for my phone or step into the kitchen, I bring that person to You. You know every hurt on both sides, and You know what I cannot fix on my own.
Soften my heart this morning. Where I have been defensive, make me willing to listen. Where I have been right and unkind, show me the apology I owe and give me the courage to say it. Keep me from rehearsing old arguments in my head as I get ready. Give me patience for the moments today when this person’s name comes up, or when I see them across the table or across the room.
Go before me into the day. Give me the words I need, not the ones that wound, and make me slow to speak and quick to hear. If reconciliation is not possible yet, let me trust You with the outcome and keep my own heart clean. Heal what is broken between us in Your time, in Your way, and let me be a peacemaker wherever You place me. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, this relationship is on my mind again. Soften my heart before I speak or type a single word today. Give me patience with this person, honesty about my own part, and the willingness to take the first step toward peace. Help me love them the way You love me, and leave the rest in Your hands. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time before your phone, email or the day’s first conversation pulls your attention away. Many people find it helpful to sit in the same chair each morning with a cup of coffee or tea in hand, so the warmth gives the hands something to do. Keep a pen nearby and write down any name or memory that surfaces while you pray, so you can return to it later in the day.
This prayer can also be shared. A spouse, a close friend, or a small group can pray it together, each person adding one line about the relationship they are bringing before God. If you are praying for someone else’s restored relationship, read it with their name in place of “I” in the opening paragraph, and speak it over them as you would a blessing.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless you and keep you today. May He make His face shine upon you and give you grace for every hard conversation. May the peace that passes understanding guard your heart and mind as you reach toward the people you love.
