This daily prayer for today is for the moment you wake up and feel the day already pressing in, whether that is the to-do list, a worry you carried to bed, or simply the need to start on purpose instead of on autopilot. Pray it in the morning before your phone or your inbox takes over, or at any point when you need to hand the day back to God. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where your real concerns sit.

Daily Prayer for Today

Lord, I come to you before anything else this morning. You made this day, and you know every hour of it better than I do. I don’t know what will happen between now and tonight, and some of what I’m carrying feels heavy: the conversation I’ve been dreading, the money that doesn’t stretch as far as I need it to, the people I love who are struggling in ways I can’t fix. Teach me to bring those things to you as they come, not all at once as if I have to solve them by myself.

Give me patience with the people I’ll meet today, especially the ones who test it. Help me to speak kindly when I’m tired, to listen before I answer, and to notice the person who needs a small kindness that costs me nothing. Guard my attention from the things that pull me away from you and from the people in front of me. When I get anxious about what I cannot control, remind me that you are already in the rooms I’m walking into. Keep my hands busy with what is mine to do and my heart still when it is not. Be near me in the hard places and be glad with me in the good ones. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this day is yours before it is mine. I give you the hours I can see and the ones I can’t. Help me do the next right thing, speak with kindness, and trust you with what I cannot carry. Stay close to me today, and let me rest in knowing you have already been here. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this when yesterday felt like a failure or a weight you are still carrying. Thank God that his mercy starts fresh each morning, and ask him to let you receive that newness today.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

Use this as a way to name the day out loud before you step into it. Ask God to help you find something to be glad about today, even if it is small and easy to miss.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

Bring your heaviest concern for today to God in this verse. Pray for the courage to set the burden down in his hands rather than picking it back up by mid-morning.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Let this verse slow your planning. Ask Jesus to help you keep today’s worries to today’s size, so you can deal with the real troubles in front of you without borrowing tomorrow’s.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this as you make choices today, big or small. Ask God to direct your steps where your own understanding runs out, and to keep your trust in him instead of in a plan you have already made.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a moment before the day gets loud, such as while the coffee brews, in the car before you go in, or on the edge of your bed before you stand up. Sit or stand somewhere you can be still, and if it helps, hold something in your hands, a mug, a pen, or the steering wheel, and let that object remind you that you are giving your hands to God for the day ahead.

If you are praying with a spouse, a child, a roommate, or a friend, read the prayer together and let each person add one line about what they are facing. Families and small groups can pray this over the breakfast table or before a school run. Whoever is praying can say the names of the people they will see today as they pray, so the prayer stays specific to real faces.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you through every hour of it. May he steady your heart when it wavers, give you grace for the people you meet, and fill you with a peace that outlasts the busy hours ahead.
