This short prayer is for the moments when hope feels thin, when the days keep piling on and the outcome you long for still looks distant. It is written to be prayed in the morning before the day gets loud, in the car before a hard conversation, or at night when worry keeps you awake. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own honest words in where they fit.

Short Prayer for Staying Hopeful

Lord, I come to you tired and a little discouraged. Some of the things I am waiting on have taken longer than I expected, and I find myself wondering whether anything will change. The news, the bills, the silence from people I love, all of it presses on my heart until hope feels like something I have to work hard to hold. I confess that I have started to measure my faith by how I feel, and today I feel worn down.

So I ask you to steady me. Remind me that you have not forgotten the things that matter to me, and that you are already at work in places I cannot see. Give me enough hope for this one day, and help me trust that you will give me enough for tomorrow too. Guard my mind from the spiral of what-ifs, and let my thoughts settle on what is true about your character. Keep me company in the waiting, and teach me to lift my eyes when I want to look down. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am running low on hope right now. Be near me in this moment and quiet the fear in my chest. Remind me that you are faithful, that you hear me, and that my future is held in your hands. Give me the next small step of trust, and let that be enough for now. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Romans 15:13

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the places where you feel drained, then ask God to fill you with joy and peace as you trust him. Hope here is a gift that flows from God, so ask him to pour it into the exact spot where you feel empty.

Psalm 42:5

Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence.

(WEB)

Use this verse when your inner voice is pulling you downward. Speak it back to yourself slowly, then tell God what is weighing on you and ask him to help you keep hoping in him.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this passage with gratitude for the mercies you have already seen today. Thank God that his kindness has not run out, and ask him to help you notice the fresh measure of it that comes with each new morning.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when you feel physically and emotionally spent. Ask him to renew your strength not so you can rush ahead, but so you can keep walking steadily through the waiting.

Hebrews 10:23

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by asking God to help you hold on to the hope you have professed. Name the promises you are tempted to drop, and ask him to give you the grip to keep them close.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can slow down, such as first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee, or during a short break at work. Keep a notebook or your phone nearby so you can write down one specific hope you are carrying, then pray the prayer with that hope in mind. Some people find it helps to hold something in their hands, like a smooth stone or a ring, so that the physical touch becomes a reminder to return to God whenever they feel their hope slipping.

You can also invite someone you trust to pray it with you or for you. A spouse, a friend, or a small group can speak these words over you on a hard day, and sometimes hearing someone else voice your hope is what lets it take root again. Let that person know specifically what you are waiting on so their prayers can be focused and honest.

A Blessing to Close

May the God who is faithful to every promise meet you in this season and fill you with hope that does not run out. May his peace guard your heart and steady your thoughts, and may he remind you today that you are seen, loved, and never waiting alone.
