This evening prayer is for anyone who ends the day tired in body, worn down in spirit, or waiting on healing that has not yet come. It is meant to be prayed at bedtime, when the house is quiet and the day’s demands have finally slowed. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.
Evening Prayer for Strength and Healing
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring it to you as it is. I am tired in my body, and some of my strength is gone. Some of it I did not expect to lose, and some of it I am still trying to get back. Thank you that you do not grow weary as I do. Give me rest tonight, not only for my muscles and my mind, but for the part of me that has been bracing for bad news or carrying worry I cannot put down. Let my sleep be real and deep.
Heal what is broken in me, whether it is an illness I have been living with, a pain that keeps me awake, or a wound that has not closed. You know every symptom and every fear behind it. You know the appointments, the medicine, the waiting, and the moments when I wondered if I would ever feel like myself again. Touch me where I need you most. Give the doctors wisdom and give me patience with my own slow recovery. Guard my body through the night, and let whatever you are doing in me continue while I sleep.
Stand watch over those I love who are also hurting tonight. Protect the ones who are sick, the ones who are caring for them, and the ones lying awake with their own fears. Keep us safe until morning, and give me strength enough for what tomorrow asks. I release the day into your hands. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am worn out, and I need you tonight. Give me rest, heal what hurts, and carry the weight I cannot carry alone. Guard my sleep and keep me safe until morning. Let your strength meet me where mine has run out. Amen.

Read this slowly as your head settles onto the pillow. Let it be an invitation to set down the day’s burdens and hand over the weight you have been carrying alone.
Psalm 4:8

(WEB)
Use this verse to end your evening with peace. Pray it as a declaration that sleep itself is a gift from the Lord, even on nights when your body feels unsettled.
How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer at the end of the day, once the lights are low and your phone is set aside. A bedside chair, the edge of the bed, or a quiet corner of the kitchen all work well. If your body is in pain, you can pray lying down with your eyes closed. Let your hands rest open on your lap or your blanket, which helps you release what you have been holding.
If you are praying for someone who is sick or exhausted, you can say their name in the prayer and place a hand on their shoulder, or on a photograph or pillow if they are far away. Another person in your household or a friend can read the prayer aloud over you, and you can pray it together over the one who is unwell.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord grant you deep and restful sleep tonight. May he hold your body in his care, ease what aches, and renew your strength for the morning. May his peace settle over you and remain with those you love until daylight comes again.
