This is a daily prayer for the journey ahead, the stretch of days, decisions and unknowns that lies in front of you. Pray it in the morning before the day begins, in the car before a commute, or at the door as you leave for an appointment, a trip, or a new season. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Daily Prayer for the Journey Ahead
Lord, I come to you before I take the next step. I do not know everything that waits for me today or in the weeks that follow. Some of it feels heavy already: the conversation I have been dreading, the bills that do not quite balance, the health worry I keep turning over at night, the people I love who are far away or struggling. I bring each of these to you by name, because you already know them and I do not want to carry them alone.
Go before me in the places I cannot see yet. Steady my hands for the work in front of me and my heart for the people I will meet. When I am tempted to run ahead of you, slow me down. When I am tempted to freeze, give me the courage to take the next honest step. Keep my family and friends in your care while I am apart from them, and let me be a source of kindness to someone who needs it today.
Be my guide and my rest. Whatever this day or this season asks of me, let me meet it with you beside me rather than in my own strength. I trust you with the road ahead. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am heading into this day and I need you with me. Go ahead of me, walk beside me, and be my steadiness when I feel unsure. Give me patience with the people I meet and wisdom for the choices I have to make. Keep me from fear and help me trust that you are already there. Amen.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
Pray this passage for the new day itself. Ask God to renew his mercy over the hours ahead, and receive each morning as a fresh gift of his faithfulness.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a regular time, such as just after you wake or while your coffee is brewing, so the prayer becomes a habit rather than an emergency measure. If you can, keep a small object near the door, like a set of keys or a note with the verses written on it, and touch it as you leave as a reminder to pray. Speak the prayer aloud if you are able, because hearing your own words often helps the heart settle.
You can also pray it with someone else. A spouse, a close friend or a family member can read it with you at the kitchen table, and each person can add one specific concern for the day. Praying together turns a private request into a shared trust, and it gives you someone to check in with when the day is over.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you, beside you and behind you on every road you travel today. May he keep your going out and your coming in, steady your steps, and fill your heart with a peace that does not depend on how the day unfolds. Walk in his faithfulness, and rest in his love.
