This is a Christian prayer for the week ahead, written to ask God to go before you into the days you cannot yet see. It is best prayed on Sunday evening or first thing Monday, before the alarm, the inbox and the calendar take over your attention. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak the concerns on your own heart in your own words.
Christian Prayer for the Week Ahead
Lord, I come to you before the week begins. You already know the meetings I dread, the deadline that keeps me awake, the conversation I have been putting off, and the people I worry about most. Nothing about tomorrow is hidden from you, and I am grateful that I do not have to carry it alone. Give me a steady heart when the schedule feels crowded and clear thinking when the demands pile up at once.
Where I am tired, renew my strength. Where I am tempted to measure my worth by what I finish, remind me that I am your child before I am anyone’s employee, parent, or helper. Guard my patience with the people I love most, especially when they are hard to love on a hard day. Show me the one or two things that truly matter this week, so I do not waste energy on the rest. Keep my hands open to help the person who crosses my path unexpectedly.
Father, I also place before you the people I am praying for this week. Be near the ones who are sick, grieving, anxious about money, or waiting on news I cannot give them. Let my days be marked by honesty, kindness, and quiet faithfulness, so that others see something of you in how I live. Whatever happens by Friday, let me know that you were faithful on Monday and every day in between. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, this week feels full, and I need you now. Steady my thoughts, give me wisdom for the next task, and help me be patient with the people around me. Keep me close to you through each day, and remind me that you are already at work in what lies ahead. Thank you for going before me. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”
(WEB)
When the week feels loud, pray this verse slowly and let the stillness it describes become your request. Ask God to quiet the anxious chatter in your mind so you can recognize his presence in the middle of the noise.
Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
Use this passage as you face a week that may bring new mercies you did not expect. Thank God that his compassion does not run out on Thursday or Saturday, and ask him to help you receive each day’s portion with gratitude.
Philippians 4:6-7
6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
(WEB)
Read this slowly when worry starts to build over unfinished tasks or uncertain outcomes. Turn each anxious thought into a specific request for God, and then ask him to guard your heart with his peace.
Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
(WEB)
Pray this verse on the days you feel your energy draining away by midweek. Ask the Lord to renew your strength for what he is asking of you, and not for everything you imagine you should be doing.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
(WEB)
Bring this passage to the decisions you must make this week, big and small. Ask God to guide your steps, and trust that he will make your path straight even where you cannot see far ahead.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a regular time to pray this prayer, such as while your coffee brews on Monday morning or in the car before you walk into work. Keep a pen and paper nearby so you can write down the specific people and tasks you name, then return to that list on Wednesday to see where God has been faithful. Speaking the prayer aloud helps it stay with you when your mind wanders later in the day.
If you pray with a spouse, friend, or small group, take turns reading a paragraph each and then name one concern from the week ahead. You might also invite a fellow believer to pray the shorter version for you on a particularly hard morning. Shared prayer reminds you that you are not the only one carrying the week’s weight.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you this week and walk beside you through every hour. May he give you enough strength for each task, enough patience for each person, and enough peace to rest when the day is done. May you know, in the ordinary moments, that you are deeply loved.
