This night prayer is for anyone who goes to bed carrying discouragement, worry or the quiet weight of a hard day. It is meant to be prayed in the evening, before sleep, as you set down what you could not finish and ask God to meet you in the dark. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit better.
Night Prayer for Those Who Need Encouragement
Lord, the day is ending, and I am tired in a way that sleep alone does not fix. I have carried things I did not expect to carry, and some of them are still sitting heavy on my chest. I have replayed conversations, counted what went wrong, and wondered whether I am doing any of this well. Tonight I stop counting. I hand you the unfinished tasks, the words I wish I had not said, and the fear that tomorrow will look just like today.
Father, you see me when no one else is awake. You know the thoughts that come at two in the morning and the discouragement that makes the room feel smaller than it is. Be near me while I sleep. Quiet the voice that tells me I am alone, and remind me that you have not stepped back from me. Let my body rest and my mind loosen its grip. Thank you for the small mercies of this day, the ones I almost missed. Keep watch over me tonight, and let me wake with a little more strength than I went to sleep with. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am worn out and I do not have words for everything. Take what I could not finish today and carry it for me. Be my rest tonight. Hold me while I sleep, and remind me that I am not forgotten or left alone in the dark. Give me enough hope to get up tomorrow and try again. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet point in the last part of your evening, after the dishes or the screens are put away and before you lie down. Sit on the edge of the bed or in a chair near the window, and keep a small notebook nearby if your mind tends to race. Hold something in your hands while you pray, such as a warm mug or the edge of a blanket, so that your body has something to do while your thoughts settle.
If you are praying for someone else who is struggling, read this prayer over them in the evening and say their name where it fits. A friend, spouse or family member can pray it with you, one line each, so the weight is shared. Pray it as often as you need, and do not worry about getting the wording perfect.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord keep you through the night and give you rest that reaches deeper than sleep. May he steady your heart, quiet the fears that gather after dark, and remind you that you are held. May you wake to a new morning with fresh courage, knowing that his mercies meet you there.
