If your mind keeps circling worries you cannot fix, these prayers give you words to bring them to God. Pray the full prayer when you have a few quiet minutes, or the shorter one in the middle of a hard moment. You can read them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and say in your own words what is on your heart.

Prayers for Peace of Mind

Lord, my thoughts are running ahead of me again. I lie awake replaying conversations, rehearsing things that have not happened, and adding up every way the week could go wrong. Some of these worries are about money, some about my health, and some about the people I love and cannot protect. I do not want to carry all of it alone. Quiet my mind where I cannot quiet it myself.

Father, you already know what I am afraid of and what I cannot control. Show me the difference between what is mine to do today and what belongs to you. Help me set down the weight I was never meant to hold, and give me the courage to take the next honest step. When fear rises, remind me that you are near, that you hear me, and that you have not forgotten me. I receive your peace as a gift, not a reward for getting my feelings right. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Jesus, I am anxious right now, and my thoughts feel loud. I give you this worry in this moment, and I ask for your steadiness in my body and my mind. Slow my breathing, calm my heart, and bring me back to what is true: you are here, and you are good. Help me take the next small step and leave the rest in your hands. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Paul names worry and then names the alternative: bring every request to God with thanksgiving. Read it slowly, and pray the specific worries on your list one by one, thanking God for each step of provision you can already see.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

This verse ties peace to where your mind rests. As you pray it, name the one thing you most need to trust God with today, and let your attention settle there rather than on every possible outcome.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

When the noise of the day feels overwhelming, this verse invites you to stop striving. Pray it slowly, pausing between the phrases, and ask God to help you release the need to fix everything right away.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

(WEB)

Jesus distinguishes his peace from the peace the world offers. Pray this verse by asking him to give you the kind of peace that holds steady even when circumstances do not change.

Psalm 94:19

In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes anxious thoughts multiplying within him and then God’s comfort bringing him joy. Pray this verse honestly, naming the thoughts that multiply and asking God to bring his comfort into exactly those places.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you are least likely to be interrupted, such as early morning before the day starts or just before bed. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a pen nearby. As you pray, write down the specific worries that come up, then read the prayer again with that list in front of you. Writing turns a swirl of fear into things you can actually hand to God.

If your worries feel too heavy to carry alone, invite someone you trust to pray the prayer with you or over you. Ask them to say it slowly while you listen. Hearing someone else speak these words can gently interrupt the loop in your mind and remind you that you are not the only one holding this need before God.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who calms the sea be near to the one who is weary tonight. May he guard their heart and mind, settle their thoughts, and remind them that they are held. May they rest in his faithfulness, one breath at a time, until his peace becomes familiar ground beneath their feet.
