This is a daily prayer for a new week, written for the moment before the alarm goes off, the first coffee, or the drive to work when Monday’s list already feels too long. You can pray it aloud exactly as written, or read it once and then speak in your own words, using it as a starting point for what is actually on your heart.

Daily Prayer for a New Week

Lord, I come to you before the week starts pulling at me. You know the days ahead better than I do: the meetings, the messages I have not answered, the conversations I am dreading, and the ordinary tasks that never seem to end. I ask you to go ahead of me into each one. Give me clear thinking when my mind wants to race, and steady hands when the work piles up faster than I can finish it.

Father, some of this week carries weight I did not choose. I think of the people I love who are struggling, the worries about money or health or family that I keep returning to, and the quiet fear that I will fall short. Hold those things for me. Where I cannot fix a problem, help me trust that you are already at work in it. Where I can act, give me wisdom about what to do first and the courage to do it without freezing up.

Make me gentle this week, with the people in my home, with my coworkers, and with myself when I make mistakes. Let my words be honest and kind, and let my choices reflect the character of Jesus more than my own impatience. When Monday feels heavy, remind me that your mercies are new and that I do not have to carry tomorrow today. Thank you for this fresh start. I give you this week, one day at a time. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this week is in your hands before it is in mine. Go before me into every hour and steady me for what I cannot yet see. Help me do the next right thing, speak with kindness, and rest when I am tired. Teach me to start each morning by coming back to you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray these words when you feel you have used up your strength. Thank God that his compassion is not exhausted by the week that came before, and ask him to renew that same compassion in you each morning.

Psalm 90:12

So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask God to help you spend the week wisely. Pray that he would show you what matters most so that your days are shaped by wisdom rather than by whatever is loudest.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

When the week’s plans feel uncertain, pray this passage slowly. Ask God to keep your trust in him stronger than your need to control every outcome, and to guide the paths you choose.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Bring this promise to God when your energy is low before the week has even begun. Ask him to give you the strength to keep going, not by your own effort, but by waiting on him and drawing from his power.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

This verse helps you release tomorrow’s worries. Pray it when your mind jumps ahead to problems that have not arrived yet, asking Jesus to help you face today with the grace he provides for today alone.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer on Monday morning before you check your phone, while the house is still quiet or during the first few minutes in your car. Sit with a cup of something warm, or keep a pen nearby and write down the two or three concerns that came to mind as you prayed. Having them on paper makes it easier to return to them later in the week.

You might also invite someone else to pray it with you. A spouse, a close friend, or a family member can read it aloud while you listen, or each of you can add one line about what you are carrying into the week. Praying together over a new week often makes the load feel lighter, and it gives you someone who will ask how things went when Friday arrives.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every day of this week and walk beside you through each task and conversation. May he give you rest when you are weary, clarity when you are confused, and peace that holds steady when circumstances shift. May his faithfulness meet you fresh each morning.
