This night prayer is for the end of a working day, when your mind is still replaying meetings, emails and unfinished tasks. Pray it in the evening or at bedtime to hand your work over to God, rest your mind, and ask for protection through the night. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Night Prayer for My Work

Lord, thank You for the day that is now ending. You were with me in the meetings, the deadlines, the conversations I handled well and the ones I did not. Thank You for the work You gave me to do and for the strength to do it. Forgive me for the times I relied on my own cleverness instead of trusting You, and for the worry that crept in when things did not go as planned.

Now I set my work down in Your hands. Take the tasks I could not finish and the decisions I am still turning over. Where I was tired or short-tempered, cover it with Your grace. Where I was faithful, let that be Your doing and not mine. Guard my coworkers, my boss, and everyone who depends on what I produce. Give them peace tonight and clear minds tomorrow. Quiet the voice that tells me I must fix everything before I sleep.

Watch over me while I rest. Keep my mind from racing and my body from aching. If I lie awake, let me remember that You do not slumber or sleep. Prepare my heart for the morning and give me wisdom for whatever comes next. In Your good time, let my work serve people and honor You. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my day is ending and my work is not finished, and that is all right because You are in charge of it. I give You the tasks I could not complete and the people I could not help as much as I wanted. Take the worry from my mind and let me sleep. Watch over my coworkers and my family tonight. Help me come back to my desk tomorrow with a clear head and a willing heart. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel that you must work through the night to earn your rest. Thank God that he gives sleep to those he loves, and ask him to help you stop striving long enough to receive it.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly as you lie down. Name the things you are anxious about, then let the verse remind you that safety and peace come from the Lord, not from finishing every task.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your exhaustion to Jesus in this verse. Ask him to take the weight of your job, your responsibilities and your ambitions, and to teach you how to rest in his company.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you are unsure whether your work mattered. Ask God to help you offer your labor to him, so that your effort, even when unseen, is part of your service to him.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Pray these verses for your night hours. Ask the Lord to keep watch over you while you sleep and to guard your coworkers, your home and the work you have left in his care.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer at the end of your workday, once you are home or in bed, and before you pick up your phone to check messages. Sitting in a quiet chair or lying in the dark with a hand resting on your chest can help your body slow down while you speak. If you have a notebook, write down the open tasks and read them aloud as you hand each one to God.

If you share a home, invite a spouse, roommate or child to pray the prayer with you, taking turns reading a paragraph each. Praying for one another’s work at night builds trust and reminds everyone that the household is not carrying the job alone. Use the shorter version on the nights when you are too tired for the full prayer.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over His people guard your work, your rest and your mind tonight. May He quiet every worry and remind you that your value does not depend on what is left undone. May you wake refreshed, ready to serve well, and at peace in His care.
