This page gives you Bible passages about restoration, grouped by the situations where you most often need them: after a failure, during a long recovery, in the middle of a broken relationship, and when you are waiting for God to rebuild what has been lost. It is written for anyone who wants Scripture that speaks to being brought back, healed, and set on firm ground again.

Across these passages, the same pattern shows up. Restoration begins with God’s initiative rather than ours, it often moves slowly, and it aims at something more than a return to where we started.

Verses for When You Have Fallen Short

Failure can leave you wondering whether you are still welcome. These passages describe a God who turns toward people who have wandered and who promises to make their lives new.

Psalm 51:10-12

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. 11 Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit.

(WEB)

David wrote this after his sin with Bathsheba was exposed. He does not ask for a fresh start in his own strength. He asks God to create a clean heart and restore the joy he had lost. Try praying his words slowly before you open your phone in the morning.

Joel 2:25

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.

(WEB)

Joel speaks of years lost to locusts, a picture of ruin that was hard to see past. God promises to repay what was consumed. When you feel behind, write this verse on a card and place it where you will see it during your commute.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Jeremiah wrote these lines from the ruins of Jerusalem, yet he found hope in God’s steady mercy. Each morning brings fresh compassion. Tell someone you trust one specific mercy you saw in the last day.

Verses for Long Seasons of Healing

Some restoration is not quick. These passages speak to the patient work God does in people over months and years, when progress feels too slow to notice.

Jeremiah 30:17

For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD; “because they have called you an outcast, saying, ‘It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’”

(WEB)

God speaks directly to a people who felt cast off, promising to heal their wounds. Healing here is personal and attentive. Name one area of your life where you feel wounded and offer it to God by name during a short walk today.

Isaiah 61:1-3

1 The Lord the LORD’s Spirit is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

(WEB)

This passage describes a commission to bind up the brokenhearted and give beauty for ashes. Jesus read these words in the synagogue at Nazareth according to Luke 4. Consider which of these gifts you most need, and ask God for that one this week.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul tells the church that God works all things toward good for those who love him. This does not mean every event is good, but that God is able to bring good out of them. When a setback stings, pause and ask where God might be at work in it.

Verses for Restored Relationships

Broken relationships often need as much restoration as broken lives. These passages point to reconciliation as both a gift from God and a practice we are called to take up.

Matthew 5:23-24

23 “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

(WEB)

Jesus says that reconciliation should come before worship. Before you present your offering, you are to go and make things right with your brother or sister. Identify one person you need to contact this week and write a simple first sentence to them.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19

18 But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.

(WEB)

Paul says God reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. Restoration with God makes restoration with others possible. Pray that God would show you how to be an agent of peace in one specific conflict.

Ephesians 2:13-14

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off are made near in the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition…

(WEB)

Paul writes that Christ has broken down the dividing wall between people. Division that once seemed final can be overcome through him. If you are carrying a grudge, ask God to soften your heart toward that person today.

Verses for Waiting on God to Rebuild

When something has been lost, restoration can feel like something that has not yet arrived. These passages encourage patience and trust while God is still building.

Isaiah 43:18-19

18 “Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God calls his people to stop dwelling on the past because he is doing something new. The new thing may already be springing up, even if you have not yet noticed it. Look for one small sign of new growth in your life today and thank God for it.

Psalm 126:5-6

5 Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. 6 He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes tears sown in sorrow that will be reaped in joy. Harvest comes after a season of planting. Keep a simple journal of what you are planting in faith, such as honest prayers or acts of obedience, and watch for what grows.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Paul writes with confidence that God, who began a good work, will carry it on to completion. Restoration is an ongoing project in the hands of a faithful builder. When you feel stalled, speak this verse aloud as a statement of trust.

How to Use These Verses

Write the verses that matter most to you on index cards or in the notes app on your phone, where they will be near you during ordinary moments. Read one passage at the start of your day, then pause for a minute to consider how it applies to a specific person or situation. Repetition helps Scripture settle into memory, so return to the same few verses for several weeks rather than moving on too quickly.

Pray the words back to God instead of only reading them. Put the verse into your own language, asking God to do what it describes in your circumstances. When a passage feels hard to believe, tell God honestly, and keep returning to the text as an act of trust.

A Short Prayer for Restoration

Lord, you are the God who restores what has been broken and makes new what has been lost. I bring you the places in my life where I feel empty, ashamed, or stuck. Heal what is wounded in me, forgive what I have done wrong, and rebuild what has been torn down. Help me to receive your mercy and to extend it to others, especially where relationships need repair. Give me patience while you work, and remind me that you are faithful to finish what you have begun. Amen.
