These Bible verses for the year ahead are for anyone who is looking at a new calendar and feeling a mix of hope and uncertainty. They gather promises about God’s presence, provision and faithfulness that you can return to in January, in the middle of the summer, and in the quiet weeks at the end of the year. Each one points to the same steady truth: the God who led people through the unknown in Scripture is the God walking with you now.

Verses for Stepping into a New Season

Some of the hardest moments come at the very beginning, when a fresh year feels like a blank page you are afraid to mark. These verses speak to that first step, reminding you that God has already gone ahead of you.

Deuteronomy 31:8

The LORD himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be discouraged.”

(WEB)

Moses spoke these words to Israel just before they crossed into a land they had never seen. Before your next big decision this year, take a moment to name the thing you fear most, then remember that the Lord goes before you in it. Let that be the first thing you do each morning.

Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God speaks here of making a way in the wilderness, a promise that something new can grow where you expected only dry ground. Write down one area where you have quit hoping for change. Ask God to show you the first small sign of newness there.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These lines were written from the ruins of Jerusalem, yet they hold morning mercy at their center. When you wake up each day this year, let the phrase “new every morning” be your first prayer, and receive the day as a fresh gift rather than a test to pass.

Verses for Facing Uncertainty

No one can see the full shape of the coming months. These verses do not promise that the road will be clear, but they do promise that you will not walk it alone.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trusting God does not mean ignoring your own mind, but it does mean holding your plans loosely. When you make a plan for the year, add a line at the bottom that says “as the Lord directs.” It is a small habit that keeps your heart open.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

The psalmist describes the earth shifting and mountains falling into the sea, yet still calls God a refuge. The next time bad news arrives this year, pause and say the words “God is our refuge” out loud before you reach for your phone or your worry.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God’s voice in this verse is direct and personal, speaking to fear with three promises: presence, strength and help. Choose one of those three words and carry it with you into the week ahead, returning to it whenever anxiety starts to rise.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

This psalm pictures God watching over your coming and going, which covers every commute, trip and departure you will make this year. Pray this over your family before someone leaves the house, and let it turn ordinary goodbyes into quiet blessings.

Verses for Strength in the Hard Stretches

Every year holds seasons of strain, when the work is heavy and the energy runs low. These verses offer strength that comes from God rather than from your own resources.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

The image of eagles rising on wind is a picture of strength that renews itself. When you feel you have nothing left for the afternoon, stop for two minutes, breathe slowly, and ask God to lift your weary body and mind.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul learned that his weakness made room for God’s power rather than blocking it. This year, when you feel least capable, admit your limit honestly in prayer. You may find that the admission itself becomes the place where help arrives.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

(WEB)

Paul wrote these words from prison, which gives them weight beyond personal ambition. Use this verse for the task in front of you rather than for every dream, asking God for the strength the next right step requires.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

This verse does not say every event is good, but that God works within events for the good of those who love him. Keep a notebook for the year and record moments when you later saw God working in something that first looked like loss.

Verses for Rest and Renewal

A year that is full of plans still needs room to breathe. These verses invite you to slow down, receive rest as a gift and remember that your worth is not measured by your output.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

(WEB)

Jesus invites the tired and burdened to come to him, offering a yoke that is easy and a load that is light. Plan one unhurried day each month this year, and treat it as an appointment with the one who gives rest.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

The shepherd leads the sheep to green pastures and still waters before asking anything of them. When your calendar fills, look for one small green pasture, such as a walk, a cup of tea or a few minutes of silence, and let it restore you.

Exodus 33:14

He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

(WEB)

God promises Moses, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Before you start any new project this year, ask God whether this is a task he is asking you to carry with him, and notice how the request changes your pace.

How to Use These Verses

Write three or four of these verses on index cards or in the first pages of a journal before the year gets busy. Place one on your bathroom mirror, one in your car and one in your work bag. When you see a card, let it prompt a single breath of prayer rather than a long devotional sitting, since the goal is to keep God’s word close all year.

Choose one verse each month to memorize and read aloud on the first morning of that month. At the end of each season, look back at the verses you have used and note where they proved true in your life. That record will become a quiet testimony for the next year’s planning.

A Short Prayer for the Year Ahead

Lord, I bring you the year that lies in front of me, with its unknown days and its plans I cannot yet see. Go before me as you promised Moses, and make a way where I see only wilderness. When I grow anxious, remind me that you are my refuge and my strength. When I am tired, give me the rest that only you can give. Keep me close to your word every morning, and let my ordinary days point others toward your faithfulness. Amen.
