This is a Christian prayer for children’s faith, written for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who loves a young person and wants them to know God personally. Pray it at bedtime, at the breakfast table, or whenever a worry about a child’s heart comes to mind. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and speak the words that rise up in your own heart.

Christian Prayer for Children’s Faith

Father, I bring this child to You today. You know their name, their fears, their questions and the quiet places in their heart that no one else sees. I ask that You would draw them close to You long before they can explain what they believe. Let them feel Your nearness in ordinary moments, in a song they hum, a story they hear, or a kind word from someone who loves Jesus.

Lord, when doubts come, and they will, help them bring those questions to You instead of hiding them. When friends mock or pressure them, give them courage to stand firm and quiet confidence in who they are in You. Where they are tempted to believe that God is distant or that their prayers are too small, remind them that You listen and You delight in them. Plant a faith in them that is real, personal and able to grow with them for a lifetime.

Thank You for the gift of this child and for the chance to point them to You. Shape my words and my example so they reflect Your love. Help me be patient when I don’t see growth, and faithful when the answer is slow in coming. Keep their heart tender toward You, and let them one day say with their own voice that Jesus is their Lord. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this child is precious to me and even more precious to You. Open their eyes to see You, their ears to hear Your voice, and their heart to trust You. Give them faith that is simple, honest and growing each day. Guard them from fear and doubt, and let them feel Your love surround them right now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a hope for the long road ahead. Ask God to guide the child in the way they should go, trusting that the seeds of faith planted now will bear fruit over many years.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6 These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; 7 and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

(WEB)

Pray that God’s words would live in your own heart first, so that faith spills naturally into conversations at home, in the car and before sleep. Ask Him to make your home a place where His word is talked about freely.

Mark 10:14

But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

(WEB)

Pray that the child would never feel unwelcome in God’s presence. Thank Jesus that He invites children to come to Him, and ask that this child would always know they have a place with Him.

Psalm 34:8

Oh taste and see that the LORD is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

(WEB)

Pray that the child would taste and see the goodness of the Lord for themselves, not just hear about it from others. Ask God to let them experience His kindness in real, everyday ways.

2 Timothy 3:15

From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray that the child would come to know the Scriptures from a young age and that they would be wise toward salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Ask God to make His word familiar and dear to them.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular moment that the child already associates with comfort, such as bedtime, the drive to school or the first few minutes after breakfast. Sit close enough to touch their shoulder or hold their hand if they are willing. Speak slowly, and pause after a line or two so they can add a prayer of their own. Even a child who is restless will often settle when they hear their name spoken to God.

You do not need to pray this prayer alone. Invite a spouse, a grandparent, a pastor or a trusted friend to pray with you for the child, and let them hear you ask for their faith to grow. Keep a short note of what you have prayed and look for the answers that come over the following weeks, because God often works quietly before the fruit is visible.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless this child and keep them in His care. May He make His face shine upon them and give them a faith that is strong, gentle and true. May they grow in wisdom, grace and love, knowing every day that they are deeply known and dearly loved by God.
