This is a Christian prayer for endurance, written for the seasons when you are tired but still have to keep showing up. Pray it when the hard thing is not over yet, whether that is a long illness, a difficult marriage, a job that drains you, or a waiting period with no clear end. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Christian Prayer for Endurance

Lord, you see how tired I am. Some mornings I wake up already worn down, and the day feels longer than I have strength for. I am asking you for the stamina to keep going, not in my own power but with the steady help that comes from you. Give me enough strength for the next hour, and then for the hour after that. When I cannot see how this will end, remind me that you can see the whole road.

Keep my heart from hardening into bitterness while I wait. When I feel like giving up on the people or the work in front of me, put patience back in my hands. Help me to rest when I need rest, and do not let me mistake exhaustion for failure. Where I have been trying to carry things that were never mine to carry, show me what to set down and give it back to you.

Father, I trust that you do not waste suffering and that you are faithful even when I cannot feel it. Let my endurance become a quiet witness to the people watching me, and let it draw me closer to you. I want to finish this season still holding on to you. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am running out of strength again. Give me what I need for this moment and no more than that. Steady my breathing, steady my hands, and steady my heart. Remind me that you are with me right now, and help me take the next faithful step. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when your energy feels gone. Ask God to renew your strength the way he promises, and wait on him to do it rather than forcing yourself to push harder on your own.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Read this passage slowly when suffering feels pointless. Ask God to let endurance do its work in your character and to help you trust the hope he is building through what you are going through.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Pray this when you are tempted to quit doing good, whether that means caring for someone, keeping your integrity at work, or staying faithful in prayer. Ask God to give you the patience to wait for the harvest he has promised.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(WEB)

Pray this passage when the race feels too long. Ask God to help you lay aside what slows you down and to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, who endured more than you will ever face.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

Use these verses when the ground beneath you feels unsteady. Thank God that he is a refuge and strength, and ask him to keep you standing even when everything around you is shaking.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer early in the morning, before the demands of the day begin, or at night when the weight of the day is heavy. Find a quiet chair or a corner of a room where you will not be interrupted for a few minutes. Keep a cup of tea or a glass of water nearby, and let your hands rest open in your lap, which can help you release what you have been gripping.

You do not have to pray this alone. Ask a friend, a small group, or a family member to pray it with you or for you, and let them know specifically where you need strength. If you are too weary to pray the words yourself, you can sit quietly and let someone else read them aloud while you listen.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who never grows weary strengthen the one who reads these words. May he meet you in the long hours and steady you when your legs feel unsteady. May you find rest in his presence and courage for the next faithful step, one day at a time.
