This is a Christian prayer for my son, written for parents, grandparents, and anyone who loves a boy or young man and wants to bring him before God. It can be prayed at bedtime, in the car on the way to school, or in a quiet moment when worry is loud. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Christian Prayer for My Son

Father, I bring my son to you today. You know him better than I do. You knew him before he was born, and you have counted every day of his life. I ask that you would hold him close, especially on the days when he feels lost, lonely, or unsure of who he is becoming. Guard his heart against fear and his mind against the lies the world will tell him about his worth.

Give him wisdom for the choices he faces at school, with friends, online, and in the places where no one is watching. Help him to tell right from wrong and to have the courage to choose right even when it costs him something. Surround him with people who love him well and who point him toward you. Where he is struggling, be his strength. Where he is hurting, be his comfort. Where he is proud, humble him gently, and where he is discouraged, lift his head.

Lord, I also release my own worry into your hands. I cannot control every step he takes, but you can. Teach me to trust you more than I trust my fears, and let my words and example point him to your love. Keep him safe, keep him growing, and keep him close to you all his days. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, you see my son right now, in this very moment. Keep him safe and guide his steps. Give him a clear mind, a kind heart, and the courage to do what is right. Hold him in your peace, and remind him that he is loved by you. I trust him to your care. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many families find it helpful to pray for their sons at a steady time each day, such as at breakfast before school or at bedtime after the day has settled. Sit somewhere quiet, perhaps at the kitchen table or on the edge of his bed after lights out. Holding a pen and writing down the requests that come to mind can keep your focus clear and give you a record to look back on as God answers.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite your spouse, a grandparent, a trusted friend, or a small group to pray it with you, or ask your son’s youth leader or pastor to pray for him as well. Sharing the prayer with others reminds you that your son is held by a whole community of people who love him, not only by you.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless this son and keep him. May the Lord make his face shine upon him and be gracious to him. May the Lord lift his eyes toward what is good and true, and give him peace that outlasts every storm he will face.
