This list gives you comforting Bible verses for the moments when a prayer has been answered, or when you are still waiting to see how God will answer. It is written for anyone who wants to respond to answered prayer with gratitude, trust and steady encouragement. These verses share one thread: God hears his people, remembers his promises and acts in faithful, often surprising ways.

Verses for the Moment a Prayer Is Answered

When a long-awaited answer finally arrives, it is easy to move on quickly. The verses in this group invite you to pause, notice what God has done and speak your thanks out loud before the moment passes.

Psalm 116:1-2

1 I love the LORD, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy. 2 Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

(WEB)

The psalmist says he loves the Lord because the Lord heard his voice and his cries for mercy. Try naming one specific prayer that God has answered this month, and thank him for it by name before the day gets busy.

Psalm 34:4

I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

(WEB)

David describes seeking the Lord and being answered and freed from his fears. Write down one fear that God has eased recently, and read the sentence back to yourself as a record of his faithfulness.

1 John 5:14-15

14 This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. 15 And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

(WEB)

John links confidence in prayer with asking according to God’s will, and with knowing that he hears us. When you see an answer, remember that your prayer was heard, and let that confidence shape how you pray tomorrow.

Psalm 40:1-3

1 I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

(WEB)

The writer waited patiently, then describes being lifted from a pit and given a new song. Think of a season of waiting that ended well, and sing or hum a short song of thanks over it this week.

Verses for the Long Wait Before an Answer

Sometimes a prayer has not yet been answered, and the waiting feels heavy. These verses speak to the patience and hope that God asks of his people while they trust him for an answer that has not yet come.

Lamentations 3:25-26

25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26 It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

(WEB)

Jeremiah reminds his readers that the Lord is good to those who wait for him. Choose one small, daily act of waiting, such as pausing before a meal to pray, and treat it as a way of practicing trust.

Psalm 130:5-6

5 I wait for the LORD. My soul waits. I hope in his word. 6 My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning; more than watchmen for the morning.

(WEB)

The psalmist compares waiting for the Lord to a watchman waiting for morning. Set a time each morning to say one sentence of hope about the prayer you are still carrying, the way a watchman faces the dawn.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah promises renewed strength to those who wait on the Lord. When you feel worn down by the delay, ask God for the strength you need that day, rather than for the full answer all at once.

James 5:7-8

7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

(WEB)

James encourages his readers to be patient like a farmer waiting for the harvest. Keep a simple note of small signs of growth in your situation, even when the final answer is still ahead.

Verses for Thanking God for His Faithfulness

Gratitude keeps answered prayer from becoming a forgotten memory. These verses call you to remember God’s past faithfulness and to let that memory shape the way you trust him in the present.

Psalm 103:1-2

1 Praise the LORD, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name! 2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits…

(WEB)

David calls his own soul to bless the Lord and not forget his benefits. Each evening this week, name one benefit from the day, and speak it as a small act of remembrance.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

The same chapter that speaks of waiting also declares that God’s mercies are new every morning. Begin tomorrow by looking for one new mercy, and let it become the first thing you thank God for.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul urges believers to bring every request to God with thanksgiving. Before you bring your next request, list two prayers already answered, and offer those thanks first.

Psalm 107:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

This psalm opens by calling people to give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever. Share one answered prayer with a friend or family member this week, so that your thanks becomes a witness to others.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

(WEB)

Paul calls believers to rejoice, pray and give thanks in all circumstances. Make a habit of thanking God at one fixed point each day, such as when you start your car, so that gratitude becomes steady rather than occasional.

Verses for Trusting God With What Comes Next

An answered prayer often leaves you wondering what to ask for next. These verses help you bring the next request to God with the same trust you have seen him show before.

Ephesians 3:20-21

20 Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to him be the glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

(WEB)

Paul praises God for doing far more than we ask or imagine. Before you pray about the next need, remind yourself of how God has already exceeded what you expected.

Psalm 37:4-5

4 Also delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this…

(WEB)

The psalmist connects delighting in the Lord with the desires of the heart and with committing one’s way to him. Ask yourself whether your next request is one you can commit fully to God, and pray it that way.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

(WEB)

Jesus invites his listeners to ask, seek and knock, with the promise that the one who asks receives. Let this verse shape how you approach God with your next request, asking persistently and expectantly.

Romans 8:26-27

26 In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. 27 He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.

(WEB)

Paul writes that the Spirit helps our weakness when we do not know how to pray. If you feel unsure what to ask for next, say so honestly to God and let the Spirit help you pray.

Psalm 145:18-19

18 The LORD is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

(WEB)

The psalmist affirms that the Lord is near to all who call on him in truth. Pray the next prayer slowly, reminding yourself that God is near as you speak it.

How to Use These Verses

Write the verses that speak most to you on a card or in a notebook, placing them where you will see them, such as near your bathroom mirror or beside your Bible. Keep a running list of answered prayers beside them, dating each entry, so that the record grows over time and reminds you of God’s faithfulness.

Read a few of these verses at the start of your prayer time, and again when you give thanks for an answer. You can also pray them back to God in your own words, turning each verse into a personal request or a sentence of praise.

A Short Prayer for Answered Prayers

Lord, thank you for hearing me when I call to you. I remember the prayers you have already answered, and I am grateful for each one, including the ones that came in ways I did not expect. Help me to remember your faithfulness when I am waiting, and to trust your timing when the answer has not yet come. Teach me to bring thanks before requests and to speak of what you have done with the people around me. Give me patience for the waiting, gratitude for the answers, and courage to ask again with confidence in your love. Amen.

A Blessing

May the Lord, who hears the cry of his people, keep your heart steady in gratitude and your hope firm in his faithfulness. May you see his goodness in the answers you have received and trust his wisdom in those still to come. May his peace guard you as you wait, and may his love meet you with new mercy each morning. Amen.
