This daily prayer for a caregiver is for anyone who wakes up knowing someone else depends on them for medicine, meals, rest or simple company. Pray it in the morning before the day’s needs begin, or at the end of the day when the house is quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names and worries that are on your heart.

Daily Prayer for a Caregiver

Lord, you see the person I care for, and you see me. Before the first call, the first medication, or the first question of the day, I bring my weariness to you. I am tired in my body and tired in my patience. Some mornings I do not know where my strength will come from, so I ask you to supply what I lack, one hour at a time.

Give me steady hands for the small tasks: the washing, the lifting, the spoon at the table, the bandage that needs changing. Let me be gentle when I feel short-tempered, and forgive me when I am not. Guard my mind from the what-ifs that come at night, and remind me that the day is yours before it is mine. Help me notice the moments of ordinary grace, a shared laugh, a calm afternoon, a word of thanks.

Be near to the one I care for. Give them comfort, dignity and peace, and let them feel your nearness even when I cannot be in the room. Give me rest when I can take it, wisdom when decisions are hard, and people who will show up to help. Hold both of us today. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am stretched thin right now. Steady me in this moment and give me the next right thing to do. Help me be patient with the person in my care and patient with myself. Let your peace settle over this room and this hour. Thank you for being with us both, even here. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

When your energy runs out before the day does, pray this verse back to God as a request. Ask him to give strength to the weary and to increase power where there is none, and let the promise shape how you pace yourself.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Caregivers often carry a load no one else sees. Bring that burden to Jesus by name, and receive his invitation to rest as a real offer for your body and your heart, not only a future hope.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

Use this verse to hand over the worries you cannot solve before dinner. Name each anxiety out loud as you pray, trusting God to sustain you through what you cannot carry alone.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Some days the good you do feels unseen or unrewarded. Pray this verse slowly, asking God to keep you from growing weary in doing good and to give you a harvest of peace in his time.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

When you feel you have nothing left to give, pray this verse as an admission and a trust. Confess your weakness plainly to God, and ask him to let his grace be enough for the particular tasks in front of you today.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many caregivers find that the first few minutes after waking are the best time, before the house wakes and the phone starts ringing. Keep a copy of the prayer on the refrigerator, in a notes app, or tucked inside a medication organizer you open every day. Reading it while your coffee brews or while you wait for the kettle makes it a habit rather than another task.

You do not have to pray it alone. Ask a friend, a sibling, a neighbor, or someone from your church to pray it with you by phone once a week, or to sit with the person you care for while you step away and pray in another room. If your hands are busy, pray with your eyes open and let the words move through your thoughts as you work. God hears prayers offered in the middle of a task as readily as prayers offered in silence.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord strengthen you for each hour and steady you in each task. May he bring rest to your body, quiet to your thoughts, and kindness to the person you care for. May you know that you are seen, that you are not forgotten, and that the one who keeps you is faithful today and every day.
