This prayer is for the start of a working day, a school day, or any stretch of hours where you want your effort to count for something good. Pray it in the morning before your first task, or at a pause when the day has gotten away from you. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to the things on your list.
Daily Prayer for a Productive Day
Lord, I come to you before the day pulls me in a dozen directions. You know what is waiting for me: the emails I have been putting off, the conversation I am dreading, the list that looks longer than my energy. Help me see the day clearly. Show me what matters most and give me the wisdom to set the rest aside without guilt. Keep me from busyness that looks like work but leads nowhere.
Give me focus when my attention wants to scatter. When I reach for my phone out of habit, remind me of what I came to do. Steady my hands and my mind for the tasks in front of me, and let me finish what I begin with care rather than rushing to be done. Where I am tired, supply strength that is not my own. Where I am behind, give me patience with myself and clear next steps.
Above all, let my work be an offering to you. Whether the day brings praise or setbacks, let me do it honestly, serve the people around me well, and come home with a heart still open to you. Do what only you can do in and through me today. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need your help to focus on what matters today. Clear the clutter from my mind, give me wisdom to choose the right next step, and steady me when I am tempted to scatter my attention. Let my work be done with care and let it be an offering to you. Use this day for good, and help me trust you with what I cannot finish. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer in the first ten minutes after waking, before checking messages. Sit somewhere quiet, such as a kitchen chair with a cup of coffee, and keep a pen nearby. After you pray, write down the top three tasks for the day. Doing this with your hands gives your prayer a concrete shape and makes it easier to return to later.
You can also pray it with someone else. A spouse, a friend, or a coworker can read it aloud with you, or you can text it to a person who is praying for you. If the day goes sideways, come back to the short version at your desk, in the car, or during a break, and let it reset your focus.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into this day and make your steps steady. May he give you clear thinking, honest effort, and rest when the work is done. May the people you serve feel his kindness through your hands, and may you rest in the knowledge that you are held by a faithful God.
