This is a daily prayer for spiritual discernment, a way of asking God to help you tell truth from noise, His voice from your own fears, and the next right step from the many options pressing on you. Pray it in the morning before the day’s decisions begin, or whenever you sense you are about to choose something important. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Daily Prayer for Spiritual Discernment
Lord, I come to You before the day gets loud. You know the decisions waiting for me, the conversations I dread, the messages I haven’t answered, and the quiet question underneath all of them: what do You want me to do? Some days I can’t tell whether a feeling is Your prompting or just my own anxiety dressed up as conviction. Some days I hear many voices, including my own, and I don’t know which one to trust. Give me a clear mind and a quiet heart this morning.
Teach me to slow down long enough to listen. Show me where my motives are mixed, where I want to be right more than I want to be faithful, or where I am looking for approval instead of Your will. Let Your Word be the standard I measure everything against, and give me the patience to wait when the answer isn’t obvious yet. When You make the way plain, give me the courage to take the next step, even if it isn’t the step I would have picked for myself.
Guard my heart from pride when I think I’ve heard clearly, and from fear when I’m unsure. Help me hold my plans loosely and my trust firmly. I want to walk in step with You today, not just in my head but in my choices, my words and my attention to the people around me. Thank You that You are not hiding from me, and that You promise to guide those who seek Your face. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I don’t have much time, and I’m not sure what to do. Show me what is true and what is not. Quiet the voices that pull me away from You, and help me hear Your leading clearly. Give me wisdom for this next decision, and the willingness to obey even when it costs me something. I trust You with the outcome. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time before your day fills up, such as right after you wake or during a short walk before work. Sit somewhere quiet, and if it helps, hold a pen or a journal so your hands have something to do while your mind settles. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let a specific concern come to mind, and write down any thought that seems to come from God so you can test it later against Scripture.
You can also pray this together with a trusted friend, spouse or small group. Ask them to pray for you aloud when you are facing a hard choice, and offer to do the same for them. Discernment is often clearer when it is shared with people who know you well and who love you enough to tell you the truth.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord lead you with a steady light and a patient heart today. May He give you wisdom where you feel empty, peace where you feel rushed, and the courage to follow Him where He calls. May He who sees the road ahead go before you and make every step sure.
