This prayer is for the ordinary days when you have less energy, patience and courage than your responsibilities demand. It is written for the morning, before the phone starts buzzing and the day’s weight settles on your shoulders, though you can pray it at any hour you are running low. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Daily Prayer for Strength

Lord, I wake up today already tired. My body feels heavy, my mind is crowded with the list I have not finished, and I am not sure how I will get through the meetings, the errands, the conversations I dread. Some of what I carry is not even mine to carry, and I have been trying to hold it all by myself. I come to you because you are the one who does not grow weary, and I need to borrow some of your strength.

Give me enough strength for the hours that are already planned and for the surprises I cannot see yet. Steady my hands when I am rushed, and steady my tongue when I am short with the people I love. Where I am weak, make me honest about it instead of pretending I am fine. Keep me from reaching for things that numb me for a while and leave me emptier. Let me rest when rest is needed, and let me work with a clear conscience when work is what you have given me to do.

Remind me that my worth does not depend on how much I accomplish today, and that your help is not reserved for people who have it all together. I trust you with what I cannot manage, and I thank you for the strength already at work in me, even when I cannot feel it. Go with me into this day. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am running low right now and I need you. Give me strength for the next task, then the one after it. Calm my racing thoughts, steady my breathing and help me take the next honest step. I do not have to see the whole day to trust you with it. Renew me where I am thin, and help me remember you are near. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the places you feel faint, then asking God to give power where your own supply has run out. It works well when you feel you have nothing left to give to the people around you.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Use this verse to shift your attention from the problem to the God who stands beside you in it. Say the words slowly, and let the phrase “very present” become a request that he show up in the specific trouble you face today.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Pray this when your weakness feels like a failure. Ask God to let his grace be enough for you, and to help you stop hiding the places where you need him most.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

(WEB)

Read this verse as a prayer for help with one concrete task, not as a promise of unlimited achievement. Ask God to strengthen you for the particular thing you must do today, and trust him with the outcome.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

Pray this when your body and heart are both tired. Thank God that he is your portion and your lasting strength, and ask him to be what sustains you when your own resources fail.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying the longer version in the first quiet minutes of your morning, sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of something warm in your hands. Holding the cup gives your body something steady to focus on while your mind slows down. If you cannot find that quiet time, pray it in the car before you walk into work or in the bathroom before the kids wake up.

If someone close to you is struggling too, you can pray this prayer together, taking turns with the lines or simply speaking the petitions aloud for each other. Many people find that a short shared prayer at the start of the day gives them courage they could not find alone. Let the shorter version become your go-to whenever the day starts to press in.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who never grows weary keep you steady in every hour of this day. May he give you strength where you are thin, rest where you are worn, and peace where you are anxious. May you know, even in the hardest moments, that you are held.
