This evening prayer is for the end of a working day, when you want to hand your effort, your unfinished tasks and your sense of how the day went over to God before you sleep. Pray it at your desk, in the car on the way home, or in bed with the lights off. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where the day calls for them.
Evening Prayer for a Productive Day
Lord, I come to you at the close of this day. You saw the hours I spent on my work, the emails I answered, the tasks I finished and the ones I did not. Some of what I hoped to do got done, and some of it did not, and I thank you for the strength you gave me to try. Forgive me where I rushed, where I grew impatient with the people around me, or where I put my productivity ahead of the people who needed me. Thank you for the work of my hands and for the wisdom you gave me when I needed it.
Now I release the day to you. I set down the list I did not finish and the worries about tomorrow’s deadlines. Quiet the restless part of my mind that keeps counting what is left undone. Remind me that my worth is not measured by what I produced today, but by the fact that you made me and love me. Help me rest tonight without guilt, and give me clarity for the work ahead when morning comes. Protect my family and my home through the night, and let my sleep be deep and refreshing. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, this day is over and I am tired. Thank you for the work you let me do and the help you gave along the way. I give you what is unfinished and what went wrong, and I trust you with tomorrow. Let me rest in your care tonight, and wake me with fresh strength for what comes next. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 127:2
It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

Pray this verse as you release the pressure to prove yourself through constant effort. It reminds you that rest is a gift from God, not a reward you must earn.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

Psalm 4:8
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.
(WEB)
Use this verse as you lie down to sleep. It expresses trust that God keeps you safe through the night, so you do not have to stay on guard.
Colossians 3:23
And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…
(WEB)
Pray this for the work you did today, asking God to make your effort honest and wholehearted. It places your labor under his eyes rather than under the judgment of others.
Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a set time each evening, perhaps after you close your laptop or before you turn off the bedroom light. Pick a quiet place where you can sit or kneel without interruption. Some people find it helps to write down two or three tasks they did not finish and then read them back to God, setting the paper aside when the prayer ends.
If you pray with a spouse, a roommate or a friend, take turns reading the lines of the prayer aloud. You can also ask someone to pray this with you over the phone when you are apart. Having another person speak the words can make it easier to let go of the day and trust God with the rest.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who labored for six days and rested on the seventh give you peaceful sleep tonight. May he keep your work in his hands, meet you in the morning with fresh strength, and remind you that you are loved far beyond anything you accomplish.
